COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name of this beer is "Peculiar Christmas" in English. This spiced Christmas ale is strange - and indeed a fusion beer. We have gathered inspiration from the Norwegian drink “gløgg”, and as such this is quite an uncompromising brew. Best served with “goro” and “fattigmann”. Recommended serving temperature 10°C/50°F, but you are free to try on higher temperatures...

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, caramel, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Cascade hops; 5 different spices, English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

15°P, 30 IBU, 6.5 ABV.

Smak och doft av karamell, choklad, ingefära, fänkol, enbär. Tydlig beska, en underlig och annorlunda smak.

Bottle: Poured a murky dirty brown color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with notes of cinnamon and cardamom dominates with some light citrus hops notes also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by solid caramelized malt with some cinnamon and cardamom notes. Light toffee and chocolate notes can also be detected. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting use of the spice with good balance to keep the whole mix drinkable.

From notes: bottle labelled as "Peculiar Yule". Poured clear cola brown with a 3-finger tan head. Pleasant aroma of ginger mixed with a spice note, and maybe some candied fruit. Body is medium thick and a touch oily. The spices are the predominant flavor, with a cocoa note lingering in the finish. The ginger lies lightly beneath the spices, providing a nice spark. A mild cola-like note up front as it warms.

This spiced beer has cinnamon, ginger, cloves, coriander and cardamon listed as the 5 spices in the ingredients. Pours a real dark copper colour with a beige head, good retention and decent lace. Those special spices are definitely creating the most of the aromas. Hints of roasted malts and licorice. Medium-bodied with a mouthfeel that is slightly oily. The taste is not as powerful as the nose, but has a nice blend of things. Roasted malt, licorice, spices and even a bit of mint in the finish. Lingering ginger in the aftertaste. A nice Christmas brew that is good to have... once a year.

Found this in the bargain bin at Paul’s Grocery in McCall, Idaho for only $1.99. Quite a buy. My bottle was titled Peculiar Yule. Poured a very dark brown color with a tan head. and good lacing. Nose of ripe fruit and spices. Medium body with smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is ripe dark fruit, juniper, and chocolate. Light bitterness in the spicy finish. Very tasty.

16.9 oz bottle to snifter (thanks BeerPig). Looks solid; a murky, dark amberish-brown with off-white lacing. Smells sweet and boozy with notes of caramel and toffee. Tastes like it smells, but a little less balanced (and maybe slightly oxidized). Average on the palate. Solid beer.

Nøgne Ø Peculiar Yule
0,5 L bottle. Very dark brown pour, off-white head. Aroma is mostly herbs and spices; clove, cardamon, cinnamon, and coriander. Tastes spiced; black pepper / cinnamon tingle, chocolate malt, roast of burnt grains. Earthy finish, very thin texture. It is simply a light bodied, dark, spiced ale. (3628)
