The name of this beer is "Peculiar Christmas" in English. This spiced Christmas ale is strange - and indeed a fusion beer. We have gathered inspiration from the Norwegian drink “gløgg”, and as such this is quite an uncompromising brew. Best served with “goro” and “fattigmann”. Recommended serving temperature 10°C/50°F, but you are free to try on higher temperatures...

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, caramel, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Cascade hops; 5 different spices, English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

15°P, 30 IBU, 6.5 ABV.

Surprising crisp herbal/green hop dryness sets the palate watering for cakey xmas spices and mildly sweet dark fruit flavours. Foggy swamp water brown look with some tan head, set off by more attractive highlights orange. Long dry finish is bracing but the whole package still charms.

Bottle - 500ml. Pours a cloudy, dark brown body with a thick, lasting off-white foamy head. Robust malty/hoppy aroma with spicy and cinnamon hints. Its strong malty/hoppy taste carries oaky, cinnamon, plummy, and spicy notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Very good Christmas ale.

50cl 2013 bottle. Dark brown to red-brown with two finger tan white head. Aroma of Christmas spices, cardamon, cloves, raisins and sweet brown bread (vörtbröd). Fairly lively carbonation but smooth mouthfeel apart from that. Tastes of sweet brown bread (vörtbröd), some dried fruits etc. with some bitterness at the end. Age already somewhat noticeable, this will probably keep improving for another while in my amateur oppinion. Doesn’t quite taste as good as it smells, or as the 2014 version did on tap, but still quite good.

Pours opaque and a massive white head. Aroma includes notes cinnamon, allspice, cloves, vegetables. Tasting notes include spice, herbs, vegetables, and rich malts. This is a very heavy, complex beer. It is enjoyable, but definitely a sipper.

Bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, Copenhagen - fuzzy brown pour with off-white head. Aroma and taste is sweet light malty, with loads of herbal and spicy nuances throughout, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, pretty watery consistency. Ok but not a show stopper for me.

Very unique scent. Fruity and lots of spice. Tons of Clove and other spices. Very unique. A bit over the top and unbalanced.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2015 Bottle at home. Pours reddish dark amber. Aroma of raisins and other dried fruits, cloves, cinnamon, and various other Christmas spices, caramel, honey and roasted malt. Tastes quite bitter, with some fruitiness, sweetness, and Christmas spices; cloves, sage, medicine, pine needles. Long lasting bitterness. Remember to drink this beer at at least 10 °C - otherwise it will taste overwhelmingly bitter.

Bottle from 08-2013. Pours dark and hazy brown with an enormous tan head that made my bottle overflow. Aroma of cloves, cinnamon and ginger with a hint of caramel. Medium body, slick feel, lively carbonation. Taste is refreshing and spicy with some burnt notes of licorice and coffee. Long dry finish with a piny and pleasant bitterness.
