3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 6.5%, batch #186. Ginger aroma, metal, coriander and sweet caramel. Almost black colour. Small, fizzy, unstable light brown head. The flavour has plenty coriander, some roasted notes, cream and vanilla. Good balance between pepper and sweetness. Roasted malt bitterness in the finish. Quite spicy, but still balanced. Nice creamy carbonation, medium mouthfeel. Gets quite muddy at the bottom, but the flavour stays good.

25th May 2009
Clear brown - red beer. Soft palate. Spicy beer! But not hot spice. Lots of ginger and smooth cinnamon. Lactose sweet malt buried underneath, but this beer is all about the spice and it’s delivered well.

Bottle at Chris_O bottlefest 2007. Very deep chestnut. Beige head. Really spicy aroma. Gingerish. Fairly decent wake up spicy beer. Very heavy on the spice, but not bad at all.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 4, 2008 Bottle, 2007 vintage. Well, it’s sure a beer I need to be in the mood for. The other day I had a bottle, but it wasn’t the right time, leaving me a bit unsatisfied. Today I really wanted it, and it left me with a much better feeling. The look is still the same, a dark brown body with a reddish hue, and a beige head on top. The aroma is the usual spiced one, maybe slightly more roasted and hoppy than earlier years. Tad mint as well. As with the two other Christmas beers from Nøgne Ø this year, I think they have another hop in the beer, at least a higher IBU. There’s still a roasted, coffeeish flavor and a good dash of Christmas spices. It has a long, roasted, spiced and hoppy finish. The hops leaves a citrusy touch, pine and some bitterness. Yes, it deserves my rating. (080104)
Bottled (2005 vintage) at Uptown. Dark reddish-brown with a dense tan head. Perfumed hoppy aroma with mint in the background. Flavor is much like aroma, with alcohol in the background. I see some of the Scandinavians refer to Glögg, and that is not a bad reference. It is quite spicy, Cough-medicine, cloves, cinnamon and other spices is recognized, and the beer is much more balanced than the 2004-vintage. Gingerbread, nuts and the traditonal Norwegian cookies goes well with it. Hoppy finish. (051103)
