3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Up until recently the most remarkable beer I have ever consumer as Sunturnbrew. It sat as the best beer I have ever tasted with a score at around 4.7. I could not picture a better beer until Westvleteren came along and then it did. I was spell-bound. I bought a bottle and am leaving it to mature and I will see what happens in a year or so.
This one reeks of the same producer, but nowhere near the same method.
Purplish, tawny port colour and I wish I knew how they did that, Mocha head that sat on top of the beer and then buggered off. Aromas of cloves, plum, currant, mace, garam masala, aniseed, cherry-vite, medicinal tinctures and all sorts of things that ought not to be consumed by themselves.
Give me a taste and it was as if I was not suppose to open the package: it was someone else’s medication. Pungent, numbing and strong. I have but few regrets about this beer: I am not drunk, I am spellbound by the taste and I am not moved to like it terribly much as I did the Sunturnbrew. For a beer that ought to rock the world, I swoon and forget about its lead singer before I smell bacon and eggs for brekkers.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
2008 vintage (Brewed 15/05/2008)
Very interesting and Christmas spicy nose, giving indications of something off dry or semi sweet in the mouth.
The taste is truly a fusion: IPA bitterness and astringent fruitiness combined with Christmas Ale maltieness. It’s an interesting beer, but how good is it?
It’s an academic beer in the science that it’s an untraditional construction of elements which are usual not combined in this way. But is it good?
It’s neither an aperitif beer nor a food beer or a dessert beer. It’s a meditation beer and a gingerbread beer. But is it good?
Well, as far as I’m concerned I’m not convinced yet and all I can say is: the jury is still out on this one.

Exciting beer. It definitly smell and looks like christmas! The description "fusion of christmas ale and gløgg" is precisely what it is. I think I’ll have another one soon.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle 50 cl, BBE 08/2016. Strong herbal notes, medicinal feeling here in aroma,
some odd perfumy notes as well. Not much of christmas so far, which is a pity.
Bland taste of some herbal and light unnamed spicy notes. These spice/herb
interpretations seldom work. Perhaps some cardamum and cinnamon in aftertaste,
but it just doesn’t feel right here. A disappointment resulting in drainpour.

Strong, a bit unbalanced and artificial aroma with ginger, sweet caramel and cardamom. Light orange color and cloudy liquid. Light, white head. Taste has mainly cinnamon, cardamom and juniper with medium hops. Also some malts and organic taste with medium taste spectrum. Medium aftertaste has those hops, juniper, some tar. Medium body with average carbonation.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
A strongly-spiced brown ale with almost unbearable nutmeg, allspice and potpourri. Medium body with sweet Dr Pepper / plum malt on the approach followed by a harsh herb and hop flavor, it’s like a wood oil astringency in a lengthy, bitter finish. Burnt and astringent malt graininess. That’s where the dry, perfumed potpourri wood character becomes overpowering.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
pours clear brown-reddish with an abnormal tall rocky light beige head, good retention and lacing. pickled ginger, roasted and caramel malts, cinnamon bun, pepper, booze, HCO3, loads of coriander - in fact, loads of spices - overdone, bit earthy and ashy, abrasive citrus - cascade-like, indian masala. cloying caramel and raisins. abnormal lively carbonation - fizzy, medium body - oily, slighty drying early brett, über-spicy and cloying finish. meh. DP.

The first two times i tried this beer, i poured it in the sink...the third time i finished it but didnt like it. This time i cant get enough of it! Smell is intense! Mostly ginger and some cardamon and cinnamon. Flavour is the same. A bit "soapy" mouthfeel, but definitiv less than the previous years. Maby they have changed it, maby it’s me that have changed.
I thinck it’s me...
