COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name of this beer is "Peculiar Christmas" in English. This spiced Christmas ale is strange - and indeed a fusion beer. We have gathered inspiration from the Norwegian drink “gløgg”, and as such this is quite an uncompromising brew. Best served with “goro” and “fattigmann”. Recommended serving temperature 10°C/50°F, but you are free to try on higher temperatures...

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, caramel, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Cascade hops; 5 different spices, English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

15°P, 30 IBU, 6.5 ABV.

Bottle from the LCBO, fittingly enjoyed as a nightcap on Christmas Eve. Poured very carefully (i.e. leaving the sludgy sediment in the bottle), it has a lovely clear mahogany-copper body with a small beige head. Aroma makes it pretty obvious that it’s a spiced beer - ginger, cinnamon, clove and more - and the supporting notes of cocoa, molasses and dried dark fruit from the malt give the whole thing a great "Christmas pudding in a glass" vibe. The flavour isn’t quite as deep and complex as the aroma suggests, mainly due to the fact that the spice comes on a bit too strong, developing a slightly harsh edge that takes away from the sweet dark cake notes of the malt base. The finish is quite nice, though, as things dry out with hints of licorice and spruce. A great holiday treat, but not something suited for every day drinking.

Loads of cinnamon, ginger and chocolate. Also a lot of roasty aromas, tiny bit of smoke and dried fruits. Very pleasurable aroma, feels like christmas. clear, dark liquid with a medium height head, good lacing. definitely a sweet beer, very tasty. Tastes roasty, lightly bitter. Low carbonation, long finish, medium body. Great beer overall. A one to drink by the fireplace during christmas season.

(Bottle) Reddish brown colour with dense, beige head. Malty, spicy nose with cinnamon, ginger, dried fruit, orange peel, juniper needles, clove, coriander seed, caramel and a touch of oloroso sherry. Malty, spicy taste with notes of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, orange peel, clove, dark fruit, hints of coffee and liquorice. Fairly dry finish with a balanced spicy bitterness. Medium body, smooth and well rounded. Quite spicy, but well balanced and tasty. Nice one.

Thanks to rosenbergh for this great brew! Best før 08.08.16 - Brygget 08.08.13 - Batch No. 1808/1911D
This christmas-brew starts smooth-malty. The herbs fit in the mainpart quite well, but are not too intense. But I can taste them quite well - only the cinnamon is a bit low in aroma, but coriander, cloves and ginger is great with the malty body. The aftertaste is smooth, fresh-herbal with the spicy coriander and ginger aroma in the back.
Very great and interesting brew!

Bottle. Clear dark body with low frosty head. Aroma has impression of cola like limonade. There are notes of anise, cloves, herbs. Like christmas cake, but first of this kind I have that is actually balanced. Taste has spicy, licorice sweetness with low earthy bitterness. Body is full, medium carbonation. It’s odd, but not bad.

Tap at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy dark amber with a frothy off-white head and some broken lace. The aroma is rich spicy red berry fruit, lots of cloves. Rather glogg like. The flavour is medium bitter, light sweet, with a spicy, fruit hop toothpaste bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Quite an odd time of the year to be drinking this and in entirely the wrong place. It should be a log cabin in December in Svalbard... with a polar bear outside trying to get in!

Smells like cloves, other spices, rich and very christmassy. Nice, tastes clovey, rich malt, leaves a numbing tingle on the tongue. Would’ve done well to keep this until christmas!

This was a tasty beer, but something was a little off in the flavour. Anyway...poured a dark opaque coke-like colour with a tan head that dissipated fairly quickly leaving a little lacing. Nose for brown sugar, ginger, clove - and here’s that off flavour showing up - a little camphor. The taste profile was very similar with a nice maltiness, clove, ginger, and once again that medicinal note that persisted into the aftertaste. It’s like they use black cardamom rather than green, but without the smokiness.
