COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

[5438-20130531] Sample. Nutty hops and toasted bread aroma. Murky, brown body with a long-lasting creamy mocha head. Bitter toasted grains flavour has a nice light evergreen needle base. Medium body has a great bitter base. Delicious, great balance. (7/3/8/4/17) 3.9

Carbonation faible, corps moyen.

2013-05-31. Murky brown body with a nice tan head. 3+ Aroma of typical brown ale malt profile is quickly eclipsed by leafy green hops. Flavour is muddled, with a fair amount of bitterness. Nice malty core. Lingering green hops and bitterness long into the finish. 7++ Average plus to medium bodied palate, nice carbonation. 3+ Pretty decent, it is not very balanced but enjoyable overall. On tap at Mondial de la Biere 2013, Montreal

In short: A richly malted and generously hopped brown ale. Very good.
How: Tap at brewpub. Listed at a whooping 90IBU when I was there (that’s pretty high for a brown ale).
The look: Mahogany-burgundy body topped by a medium beige head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: The inviting nose is peppery leafy hops, pecans, browned banana peels. A nice hoppy brown ale aroma. Taste is richly malted, succulent pecan pie, bakery milk chocolate, caramel, cashews, brownies. Then the generous hopping (mostly leafy) with a black pepper spiciness. Very full body with a rich creamy texture and plenty of soft bubbles, nice mouthfeel. Medium bitterness. Quite easy to drink for a 8% brown ale. Without a doubt my favourite from the new pub-brewery on my first and only visit there. As any establishment all beers are a work in progress but I think this one doesn’t need much tweeking at all. This is promising. And let me tell you that it’s pretty hard being a famous ratebeerian, I just cannot leave a brewpub without a paparazzi-barman chasing me to my car being all “sir, please come back” and “you need to pay for this” and “you need to pay for that”.

A brown ale with a thin brown head. In aroma, a nice floral hops mixed with grassy caramel malt with piney notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with piney floral hops, coffee and alcohol warmth. Very good.

Drank on tap (12 oz) at the brewpub on April 23, 2013. Dark brown, thin head. Aroma of roasted barley, notes of hazelnut. Nutty fruit, flavor, a little bitter hops aftertaste of sour alcohol. It does not taste like pennies (the name of the beer)!
