Bottled. Deep rubyish brown colour with mediumsized foamy brown head. Aroma is shitloads of liquorice, mild caramel malts, some burnt sugar, and some toasted and spicy notes. Flavour is liquorice, a bit toasted, slight notes of burnt sugar, mild alcohol and spices. A rather pleasant Xmas seasonal.

Bottled (Alko, BB 05/2011)
Seems that this is totally different recipe than a previous Talvi IV. Dark clear amber-copper color, small off-white head. Aroma of anice and barley grains. Quite light bodied for this ABV. Flavor has also barley grains, anice, licorice and caraway. Also some dark malts with light roasty notes. Some hoppyness with oily mouthfeel in the finish. This winter beer is quite Christmasy and has some Het Anker fingerprints :) But his is a lager, these flavors work much better in more fruity ale.

FatPhil (9258) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - FEB 8, 2011
330ml bottle (Alko Arkadia, Helsinki)
5+ Sweet caramelly and slightly plasticky aroma, hits of a dunkelbock in there. Not really so spiced, don’t think this should be s/h/v, IMHO.
4 Deep red, persistent tiny beige head.
5+ Fairly simply malt-oriented dark lager, mildly roasty, a touch plasticky, following the aroma. Spices only hinted at, mabe some clove. Hops a little pencil-sharpening-like
3 Smooth palate, crisp carbonation. Finish has a little more clove in it, but is generally just the fading away of the taste.
11 Nothing actually wrong with it, but it leaves me underwhelmed. I’ve had some better dark lagers from Nokian. Does improve as it warms. Don’t drink cold.

Rune (7942) - Tromsø, NORWAY - FEB 20, 2011
Thanks to Finn for a 330ml bottle of this. Deep, russet coloured body, tiny beige head. Mild aroma of earthy malts with hints of cinnamon. Taste of earthy, mid-sweet malts along with weak fruity hints and spices. Flat in the mouth. Over par and quite alright (Tromsø, 11.02.2011).

330 ml bottle. Finland.
Dark reddish brown colour with small light tan head. Red wine, mild alcohol, berries, roasted malt and sugar in aroma. Roasted malt, rye bread, some mild hops, some alcohol, berries and sugar in flavour. Not the worst Nokian brew. Quite the opposite.

lusikka (6176) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 11, 2010
330 ml bottle.
Pours a dark but transparent brown colour with a minimal white head. Aroma of nuts and some hops. Flavour of sweet toasted malts, mild hops with fruity tones. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Slightly warming finish. Easy to drink.

Pours murky dark red colour with small head. Aroma of light berries, vegetables, ripe fruits and spices. Flavour of ripe and dried fruits, spices, light caramel malts, distant sugar candy and grain. Decent.

laiti (5597) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUN 3, 2012
33 cl bottle @ Nurmo. Rated on 25.12.2010
Aroma has some roastiness and bready malt. Flavour has some herbs, bready malt, chocolate and hints of metal. This tries to be something christmasy as well as easy‐going for the masses. And fails at both.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 11/20
Miksu (4946) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - DEC 1, 2010
0.33 l bottle from Alko. Slightly hazy dark amber color. The aromas of clove, pepper, dark caramel and hint of milk chocolate. Sweetish toffeish flavor with clove, pepper, dark caramel, milk chocolate, licorice and honey. Clearly tastier and more balanced than the lower alcohol version. But still, the spiciness feels a bit simple.

sayravai (4669) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 11, 2011
(Bottled, rated 2010-11-10) Clear, dark brown color with a quickly fading, lemonadey head. Aroma dominated by cough-medicinal anise and herbs, which is somewhat artificial, and begins to disturb after a while. Same medicine in the flavor - probably the "aromas" mentioned in the flavor, with a touch of roastiness, and even smaller touch of hops. Color malt also peeks behind the spicy curtain. Quite light body for the ABV, not warming enough for a winter beer. Artificial spiciness, luckily not much burnedness.
