The creation of Flambeau Red starts with the selection of seven unique malts, to give a complex profile which is the foundation of this seasonal ale. Complemented by the barrage of three hop varieties, this is one incredibly well balanced American style red ale. The extreme depth of flavors are our focus, while the American ale yeast used for fermentation allows them to pop on the canvas that is Flambeau Red. The result of NOLAís latest seasonal brew is one incendiary beer, as bright and warm as the keepers of the flame that light the parade route during Mardi Gras nights.

On tap at Avenue Pub post-Mardi Gras. Pours amber (duh). More malty than hoppy but fairly balanced overall. Nothing really standing out, but itís a fine job and serves its purpose.

One of many local choices I ordered this to see what the local flavor is. After sampling a couple my suspicions were confirmed. Unless thereís something I overlooked Abita is the best option for a state tick. Otherwise drink it for the atmosphere of being down south.

Aroma / Appearance - Ruby red with a glowing base the body is as warm as the humid air outside. Roses, cherries, and malt mix in the way that isnít flawed but doesnít have a punch. It is as lazy and listless as the warm summer afternoon during the peak of the day.

Flavor / Palate - Thin cherry Twizzlers tickle the palate before the transition becomes pie crust and malt. A bit timid and plain this is one of those beers that you forget as soon as you order the next pint. I donít think Iíll be clamoring to try many more NOLA releases the next time I am in the neighborhood.

Tap. Avenue Pub. Pours a very dark amber red body with a nice one finger frothy off-white head that left some nice lacing. Much darker than the average íred aleí. The nose is nicely hoppy with a citrusy kick and a fairly hefty toasted maltiness. The flavor is pretty bold compared to what I was expecting. Nice toasty and slightly husky (ok in this style for me) malt with moderate citrusy hops and a lengthy caramel and toasted malt finish. Medium bodied with a slight resiny stickiness on tbe finish and fizzy carbonation. Pretty good, exceeded my expectations.

Fantastic hop aroma and excellent color for an american amber. I would prefer the flavor to be a tad more malt forward as I prefer non-west-coast-amber-ales, but this is a great beer either way. Body is medium and overall experience is marvelously drinkable. NOLA FTW!

Tap @ Avenue Pub: Pours a caramel red color with a nice white head. The nose is fresh and toasty with a light caramel and bread notes. A nice light underscore of fresh piney hops and a balanced finish. Nice red ale.
