At a tasting, thanks, small stable light brown espresso head, opaque black color, flavor plums and prunes, dark chocolate, toasted bread and cocoa, flavor of cocoa, dark chocolate and earthy notes, medium bitterness, quite sweet. Nice.

bottle:pours a deep dark chocolate brown with a thin tan, brown head with no lacing..........aroma has lots of dried fruit(raisins and prunes) kind of like a well-brandied plum pud, with roasty and coffee notes, a little maltiness......a sweetness reminiscent of molasses maltiness, coffee taste .........slick and oily with a bitterness and alcohol warmth towards the end, soft carbonation.....a keeper, a great companion for the fireside on a cold winters night

Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles’s place. Thanks zvikar. Black with a tan head. Nice aroma of chocolate, coffee, liqueur, some peated whiskey, wood, dried fruits. Sweet flavor with chocolate, some coffee, roast, some peated whiskey. Full-bodied. Very good.

Rating #1280. 10.11.2014 - Bottle from CBI Archives. Black as an Englishman’s heart, with a weak bubbly tan foam. Aroma is heavy roast malt, burnt sugar, currant, raisin, smoke. Taste is mild bitterness, medium-heavy alcohol character, lots of currant and smokiness on the palate in the finish. Unreal.

Sample from a 12oz bottle. Num.de lote: 08/05/2015. Thanks to b3shine for sharing. Very dark brown color. Thin khaki head. Dots and bits of lace. Some dark chocolate, cocoa, touch of coffee, some vegetal to the aroma. Medium to bigger body. Definitely some chewiness to it. Mild dry. Some dark fruit. Moderate to bigger bitter. Some bigger sweet. Like bakers chocolate, that kind of bittersweet, here. Interesting stuff. Very baker’s-chocolate-like. Tasty... Really good actually. Nice chocolate imperial stout.

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Cincy crew; thanks DuffMan). Looks good; a slightly translucent amberish brown cola with beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells good too; dark malt, chocolate, oak, and s touch of peat from the barrel. Tastes much more metallic than it smells with a medium full-bodied mouthfeel. Solid, but smells significantly better than it tastes.

11.2 oz bottle shared by b3shine. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, wood, char, the lagavulin barrel is noticeable but not overpowering which is nice, earth, some roasted bitterness to the finish, solid.

Bottle. Black with no head. Chocolate and coffee flavours merge together with a subtle presence of alcohol. Surprised the alcohol presence wasn’t more obvious considering its strength. Amusing label and an interesting beer.

330 ml Bottle. Jet black pour with a thin dark tan head. Nice is roasted malt, dark chocolate, smoke, boozy. Malty sweet taste, chocolate, some peatiness. Body is super heavy, slick mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Great stout to sit back with and sip on for dessert. And who could ignore that label.

Bottle. Pitch black, beige head, very oily in texture. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, peat, booze, very complex. In taste roasty, sweet with coffee, licorice. In taste alcohol is bit too harsh. Full body, thick, very oily on the palate. Exept unpleasant alcohol it is great stout.
