Bottle shared by Max- Thanks! Pours a deep muddy brown with a thinning head. Aroma is oxidized already, fairly woody and earthy with some slight sweet wine notes, cognac, soy and meaty oxidation- almost pork or pig like- ham, some bacon in there as well- some sugary sweetness, and slight maple sweetness/oxidation with figs, and other dried sweet fruits. Flavor is more sweetness, maple, honey, soy, ox saltiness, meat, raisin, fig, deep toasted and stewed malts, caramel, toffee, molasses, plums, brown sugar, soy and slight papery oxidation. THe barrel aging really sped up the aging of this beer such that it seemed over 10 years old already. Not bad.

Bottle from Max. Big, sweet, lightly port, oxidized aroma, a lot of grape, malt, beet sugar. Strong, very flavorful, I guess, some metal and sherry oxidation notes, decently drinkable, heavy but not too rough. A tad boozy. A decent experiment, better than most.

Bottle. Dark brown with small brown head, looking quite flat.
Aroma first off all sweet, alcoholic, prunes and a little oxidised, not much port. Taste way too sweet, cloying, strong alcoholic and some very weak port notes. Finish weak port notes but most of all cloying sweet. I still haven´t tasted a barrel aged beer that convinced me that barrel ageing add anything positive to a beer. It takes away the freshness and and adds a lot of sugar and cloying sweetness.

Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma is bready malt, light port, berries, cherry, vineous. Flavour is sweet caramel, vineous, cherry, berries. Very nice.

pours a very dark amber with minimal head. Great complextity on the nose and taste. dark fruit (plums, dark grapes,) with a slight woodiness. Nice balance, not too sweet, slightly alcoholic, Amoungst my favourite barley wines.

Brown pour. Sweet aroma, delicious brown sugar, burned caramel and some booze. Flavor is sweet and malty. Nice and robust. Damn great beer. Thanks to hophead84!!

Labeled Niepoort Barrel 07. Thanks hophead84 for sendin this one to our table. Spicy malt and alcohol nose. Murky brown in the glass. High sweet on the palate, with sharp alcohol. Good.

Tried at Woodshop 5.0. Very nice. Very sweet. Sherry oxidation is wonderful. Light booziness is well hidden. Very good.

Bottle. Almost identical to cognac-version. Frothy white fair mostly deminishing head. red-amber colour. Light malty and hoppy intense aroma. Light sweet and moderate bitter vinius flavor. Long nice finish. Creamy palate. Again too expensive and a little boring.
