Wow - her er en øl der vil noget. Spændende smag. Jeg tror den bliver endnu bedre når den har ligget et par år. For høj alkohol pct

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2005 bottle, 14C. Deep brown with an off-white head at the rim. Aroma of stewed fruits, licorice, toffee, sherry, orange peel, marzipan. Not quite still. Full bodied but just short of sticky. Very smooth. Dark fruits and sugars, some orange peel and licorice - maybe some other sweet shop spices too. Slightly boozy with a nice little bitter kick at the end. Presumably some lushness has been and gone, but there’s no cardboard and the finish is very lovely.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle I’ve had almost as long as I’ve been in this hobby. 2006 vintage, and there’s no telling where I got it. Pours a somewhat cloudy reddish amber with a small off-white ring for a head. Lots of big sweet malty notes in here - cookie, cake, brown sugar, caramel, dried plums and figs, mellow spice, and a bit of earthiness. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, dry mouthfeel. Has aged incredibly well for something that would’ve had its 9th birthday this year. I was shocked, really, by how good it is after all this time.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Labeled 12%. 20.3oz bottle, 2006 vintage. Hazy dark red brown color. Fine darker particles in the body. Minimal ring of bubbly khaki head. In the nose, lots of dark fruit, caramel malt, toasty, and some nice heat in the nostril noticeable. In the flavor, some fruity notes like fig, less vinous than expected. Tasty milk chocolate aromas, nice hazelnuttiness. Moderate sweet taste, but not cloyingly so at all. Better taste than expected. Very light warmth, mild bitter. Lightly slick. Bigger body. Light carbonation. Interesting tasty stuff. ABV works well. Extra point for being so smooth for the ABV.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Written review from Copenhagen Beerfest.
Pours a dark, murky brown in the body with a thin head only a few bubble thick in a light beige colour. The aroma has rich toasted malts, nuts, toffee, caramel and leathery notes. A bunch of dried fruity flavours upfront with vanilla and licorice flavours. Sweet caramel malts and cereal flavours work well with raisin and prune notes. The finish is heavy and hot with alcohol presence. The aftertaste is a bit spiced and bitter with mild hop flavour and astringency. An unusual barley wine.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
660ml Bottle - The front label says it’s 2008 whilst the back label says 2009. Perhaps the brewery worker responsible for labelling had drunk a few of these before working! Dark brown in colour. Leather, dried fruit and aniseed in the aroma. Fruity and slightly sweet taste with notes of raisins, caramel, marzipan and a faint hint of cinnamon. The finish is fruity and slightly sweet and earthy. Overall a tasty barley wine, but I was hoping for a little bit more from this one. Would be interesting to compare it to a ’fresher’ version.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle - 600ml (2008). Pours an opaque brown body with a thin off-white foamy head. Fantastic malty/hoppy aroma with dried fruits, caramel, vanilla, and brandy hints. Alcohol is not too agressive. Texture is thick, oily. Its robust malty taste carries hoppy, oaky, brandy, spicy, and brown sugar notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Awesome winter warmer!

60 cl bottle @ home (2008 vintage). Pours brownish amber with a lot of sediment and an off-white head that leaves very little lacing. Aroma and flavour are caramel, dried fruits, spices, and alcohol - with a sweet finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(600ml bottle from 2010) Pours a very murky reddish brown with basically no head at all. Aroma quite sweet, a bit vinous: dark stewed fruit, caramelized brown sugar, lightly roasted, dark rye bread. Flavour extremely sweet, again caramelized brown sugar, stewed plums, fruitcake, sherry-type wine character, light toffee. On the finish, not nearly as bitter as expected, hop flavour has faded and a light bitterness remains. Slight metallic tang, maybe a touch oxidized, fairly light booze for the ABV. Body quite full, a little sticky and a little oily, very little carbonation. Pretty big malt bomb, quite sweet, thankfully the booze is toned with age but so too the hop backbone needed to balance out the sugars. So a good barley wine, but not my favourite.
