4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ungstrup (26250) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - MAR 10, 2004
The aroma is very sweet with notes of apricot, caramel, and brown sugar. The color is an unclear red and it has a small red head. The flavor is very fruity with apricot, plums, alcohol, and caramel notes. It has a very nice feeling of the alcohol running over the tongue. This beer really gives the warmth.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 yespr (25935) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - DEC 10, 2006
Draught at brewpub (35 cL). Unclear amber brown colour, little head. Strong alchol smell. Round mouthfull. Dominated by alcohol followed by notes of raisins and plum. Sweet and bitter aftertaste. Perhaps too sweet for my taste. I remebered my first tasting of this a year ago as being better.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Papsoe (25131) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 19, 2005
UPDATED: APR 8, 2009 (On tap) Apparently the first ever commercially brewed Danish barley wine. This is not exactly pretty - greyish brown and unfiltered with a small, nitrogen-like head. Served very cold in a brandy glass to emphasize it’s exclusiveness. Extremely fullbodied and potent with a very distinct bitterness. Almost vinous and port-like. The strongest brew in Denmark - and my favourite national. A truly great brew. 110404

Bottled (2006 vintage, bought from Alko). Ambery red colour, small beige head. Aroma is alcohol, some caramel malts and chocolate cookies, some mild fruity hops as well as plum and raisins. Also some sweet wood. Flavour is very much raisins, plum, alcohol and caramel malts in an excellent balance. As it warms up it also becomes quite wooden, mildly syrupy as well as vanillaish. Also some toffeeish/fudgeish notes with nuttyness growing towards the finish. Aftertaste is nuts, raisins, some alcohol, wood and vanilla in a really nice mixture. Really soft and smooth to drink. Brutally good.

Bottled. Nut brown. Toffeeish butterscotch aroma. Sweet and malty, lightly chocolatey with peppery alcohol shining through. Full bodied with soft mouthfeel. Sugary finish with lingering hop bitterness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - APR 29, 2004
UPDATED: SEP 26, 2011 2011-09-26, bottle, vintage 2008 or 2009, bottled 20 09 09, 2 or 3 years old, 12% ABV, 8-4-8-4-17=41 Dark brown color, with amber hue; medium-small head. Good malt aroma, with a touch of wood. Good body, maybe less strong than expected, also because of some excess of carbonation and alcohol; good nutty malt flavor, with some fudge, in line with classic British examples (Thomas Hardy’s Ale), but with a more pronounced bitterness. The alcohol perception is quite high, which is the only note out of tune. Very good.
2009-05-15, draught at Københavnske Øldage 2009, keg from 2004, 5 years old, 8-4-8-4-16=40 Cloudy orange-amber color. Rich caramel flavor, sweetish, a bit alcoholic, with a strong hopping and alcohol warmth.
2004-04-04, draught at the brewpub, 7-4-8-5-15=39 Cloudy amber color. Malt and yeast aroma, with some alcohol, raisins. Maybe too much alcoholic; malty, caramel; good body strength, a bit oily. The strong final bitterness is maybe the best feature.
