| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 14, 2008 Pours copper-brown with thick white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, brewer’s grain, and pine hops. Flavor is dominated with grainy, earthy notes, pine resin, and interesting English maltiness. An intriguing beer, but I feel as though a lot of the flavor comes from brewer’s grain. Not quite sure how to rate this one. tronraner (1916), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 13, 2008 Bottle sampled at stevo’s. Pours cloudy orange with sticky beige head. The aroma is sticky caramel and some pine resin. The flavor has a pine kick to it right off the bat, then some interesting caramel notes. There’s a lingering bitterness as well as some fruit in the finish and aftertaste. Pretty good. Suttree (2721), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 13, 2008 Bottle from Bottleworks, sampled at the first Stevofest. Orange, thin beige head. Smells like caramel, plus maybe fresh mown hay. Flavor is surprisingly fough, with sticky hops and amoky, earthy notes. I was pleasently surprised how unpolished this one was. As it warms, a noticeable whiskey or bourbon note emerges, as well. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Pours a deep garnet with a thin white head. big hops, though subdued for the style. A bit aspiriny. A bit of caramel in there as well. Small carbonation and a bit slick. A good bit of sweetness. big hops. But mostly nice malt character. Very round, but still nice for the style. Lingering hop bite. Perhaps best IIPA of the night, but clean and lacking in real defining character. Sofajoern (146), Denmark
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Huge hoppy nose, with notes of over ripe citrusses and pine. Nice balancing malty background for all the hoppiness. As smooth as this is - one bottle is probably enough for a whole evening. yjb (110), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 10, 2008 the hops taste just like the rest of this mess of double ipa night, maybe asimov was right, this is exhausting! the malt and roast give this an edge whic is very nice wetherel (1594), Encinitas, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Bottle from iowaherkeye today. Tried at PP bottle shop at Logan’s tasting. Amber color. small head. Mellowed hops. Some oxidation. Somewhat sweet and malty. Not hoppy like an America IIPA. Would like to try fresh. Comparable to Mikkeller Eliot Brew, but a little better. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2008 Hazy ruby, moderate head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is spicy citrusy hops. Thick chewy malts, sorta like a BW. Very heavy for an IIPA. Not a fan of the malts for the style, nor the hop flavors, but I can’t deny that is isn’t well made.
