Commercial Description:
North Bridge Extreme is the brewers gift to Anders on the 1 year aniversary for the opening of Nørrebro Bryghus. It is inspired from the South-West Californian triple IPA's. It is brewed on English ale-malt, adjusted with different colormalt and spiced with enourmous amounts of hops. A dark golden extremely bitter ale with a distinct hop aroma.

600ml - Strong aroma of earthy hops with pine and grapefruit. The grapefruit aroma is actually a little on the over ripened side. Caramel malt is also strong. Pours copper with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is actually sweet caramel with the pine and grapefruit hops in the back. Smooth for 9.6%. Palate is sticky and surprisingly sweet. Not what I was expecting, but still quite tasty.

Not the "over-the-top hops" that I was expecting from a brew positioned as "extreme". It was, however, very smooth and well balanced.

600 ml bottle poured a lightly hazy dark copper with a large lasting amber head that leaves decent lacing behind. Aromas of carmel, orange, pine, grapefruit and some herbal notes. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, grapefruit rind, orange, pine and some herbal notes with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish.

Copper red pour, medium white head that stays and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, citrus hops nad grapefruit but mainly malt. Flavor is very malt lots of sweetness and caramel in there very barley wine like. Citrus hops and grapefruit mainly with a sticky resiny aftertaste. Very sweet and cloying making this more of a barley wine than a hoppy IPA. Cloying mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Almost brandy like it’s so sweet and cloying and just a total malt bomb with hardly any hops. It confirmed my suspicion and was exactly how I thought a European IPA would be which is hardly an IPA at all.

Orange copper color with a moderate, lasting ecru head. Herbal and light citric hops dominate the aromas. Hints of malt and orange blossom honey come out with a little effort. Light caramel, plums, and touch of alcohol sweetness in the front. Middle is charged with herbal/minty hops. Fresh mowed grass really comes out in the finish. Lots of herbal qualities in this one. In some ways I feel I am having an after-dinner herbal liqueur. This does have a very nice balance to it, with the sweetness and bitterness playing nicely, verses the typical power struggle won by the hops. Slightly warming, but I’m feeling the effects from the buzz more than the burn. LInger continues with the grass theme with a touch of toasted malt. A nice brew, unfortunately these "over-the-top" IIPAs are getting to be rather prevalent and the uncommon now becoming the common. I can see how this rocked the world three years ago. This still rocks, but there are a lot more out there shake, rattle and rolling now.

Bottle from my secret santa (Storm) Thanks! Bottled 9/18/07. Nose is floral hops, caramel malt, a bit of wood, and some citrus. Flavor has a lot of caramel, some herbal hops, honey, a little butter, and a touch of booziness in the finish. A pretty nice interpretation of the style. I don’t know what to think about this beer as this was a fairly fresh bottle.

Pours copper with a thin somewhat lasting head. Aroma of floral herbal hops, wood, earth, a touch of honey, perhaps some brown sugar and a touch of caramel. Flavor is mostly medium sweet caramel, honey, toast with nice light balancing woody herbal hops. Not very bitter, but nice and balanced. Lingering wood hop flavor with some residual sweetness. Full bodied with no hint of alcohol. Good.

60cl bottle, neck seems to indicate bottled on 091807/best by 121608, with thanks to Storm! Pours a clear dark amber with a frothy tan head, good lacing. Aroma is floral, wild honey, pine, and citrus, with light caramel. Flavor is also somewhat floral, with some gentle citrus and pine; hoppy and lightly sweet. Very well balanced and enjoyable - NOT a typical DIPA, but quite well done regardless. Quite interesting to see the vast differences in West Coast/DIPA interpretations between this and the Struise-Mikkeller Eliot Brew as well!
