Dark copper colored pour with a decent sized white head. Citrusy, spicy aroma. Flavor was citrusy, spicy, plenty of malt to back up the hop-profile. Well balanced, easy to drink IIPA. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a huge frothy off white head. Aroma of hops and citrus. The alcohol also has a distinct presence. Unfortunately the bitterness from the hops overwhelms the beer and and puts any of the other flavors on hold. Ernest (4487), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 11, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie, grain), lightly hoppy (herbs, apricot), moderately yeasty (dough, sweat, mold), with a note of cardboard. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. A very clumsy, messy beer. Lots of raw dough and cardboard in the nose, very little malt or hop aroma, and an unpleasant, somewhat dirty aftertaste. There’s just nothing here to like other than the appearance. A completely dead beer to my senses. I don’t get it. tjthresh (1770), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

For a long time this was my most sought after beer. The problem was that I was unwillint to spend the money required to do a European trade. Now that it is being imported, it seemes to have taken quite a hit. Either way, thanks Brad for this hookup.
The pour is dark orange working on brown. The head was huge and sticky. Billowing. Crazy amount of lace.
Luckily, I caught a bi whiff of the huge, biting pine hop aroma. I didn’t sit down to rate this for another 5 or so minutes. By that time much of the aroma was gone. You still get some hints of pine, grapefruit, and grass. There’s a good bit a biscuit with honey aroma as well. I all just doesn’t stand up as well as I’d like.
This beer tastes really good. I get syrup or honey with some biscuits. The hops are there, but their main contribution is a head cracking bitterness.
Quite full bodied. Oily and slick. Average carbonation. Sweet finish.
I like it, but I’m not sure it lives up to its Double/IIPA billing. Hell, the description on this site says triple IPA. No way it hits that mark. Bockyhorsey (2528), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2007 Bottle. Aroma of sweet caramel maltand some spice bitter. Copper body when held to light with a creamy head that left some good lacing. Sweet citrus present but malt backbone took most of the crispness for me. Decent session beer while watching some football. BeerandBlues2 (3216), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 10, 2007 1 pt 4.3 oz bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours slightly hazy amber, ruby with a large, frothy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (caramel, straw), heavy hops (flowers, perfume, citrus, pine), average yeast (dough, sweat) with notes of apricot, peach, and paper. Full bodied, alcoholic and dry palate, lively carbonation, and a bitter, burning finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, harsh acidity and bitterness; strips the top layer off of the tongue, really. waolsen (1222), Littleton, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 7, 2007 bottle. hazy copper with small frothy head. lacing. big citrus hops, caramel malt, fresh aroma. full rich body, fresh hops, bitter tounge. great balance. hell of a brew. unfortunately at $14.99 I won’t be enjoying this one often. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 7, 2007 Descent hop nose and flavor that was actually over taken by the deep malt presence. Not overly bitter, almost not bitter enough for my IIPA’s. Like a weak barleywine. A little too alcoholy as well. Descent sweetness goes along with a nice caramel flavor. Not my cup (glass) of tea (IIPA). But not a bad beer by any means.
