It, if any beer mistaken for an IIPA, should be an English Strong. Its malt profile is very similar to Fullers 1845, with rich leathery characteristics and a dry finish. At the same time, there is a great floral hop presence in this one too, which compliments the malts. Pours copper with tan head. bhensonb (4265), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 25, 2008 500 ml bottle. Hazy ripe orange amber color with a decent off-white head. Floral and fruity aromas. Medium plus body with biting, creamy carbonation. Flavors of roasted caramel, floral hop and strange fruits. Finish is dry, astringent, rather bitter. Super brew. ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Deep purple/orange pour with a dark eggshell head. Hoppy on the nose, with fruity and carmel notes. Flavor is floral hops, fruity hops, and just good old fashioned bitter hops. Also brown sugar and citrus. Plenty of alcohol warmth on the follow through. Great DIPA. nhorween (640), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 20, 2008 Bottle. Sweet and sticky aroma of piney hops. The bottle says it is balanced, but it is definitely not... Unbalanced in all the right ways though. Caramel malty sweetness, lush tropical fruit, smooth and very sweet finish. Warming and slightly boozy. Piney and almost minty. Nice. HighWine (164), , California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 14, 2008 1pt 4.3 oz bottle. Pours the color of iced tea. Sweet and spicy nose. First taste is like honey with alcohol. Hop bitterness is subtle and brief. Heavy malt makes the beer seem more like a barleywine than a 2IPA. Very nice. jasonp (1510), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2008 Bottle, purchased from the Pizza Port Carlsbad bottle shop. Dark amber, slightly hazy with an off white head. Piney, eathy, woody hop nose with a tinge of oxidation. Strong toffee malt base followed by a prominent woody, piney hop presence. Somewhat boozy. Fairly sweet but not cloying. Can almost be considered an American Barleywine, actually. Full, round and creamy on the palate with moderate, fine beaded carbonation. Good, but not amazing. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Strong malty, cognac, wheat and flowers in an aroma strong enough to fill the room. Dark wooden cognac notes, beige medium head. Taste very hoppy, the cognac theme goes on. Extreme finish. glennmastrange (857), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 5, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malt and hops aromas of roasted, cookie, caramel, nutty and orange, moderate aroma of soap and broth for the yeast, with notes of fruitcake dried cherry and pepper. Head is large frothy off-white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is hazy orange/brown. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start and finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full oily and has soft to lively carbonation. Sweeter than youd expect, but this is definitely one of my favorite DIPAs but $19 a bottle?...Holy crap
