Huge nose is spicy orange and floral, solid caramel maltiness to back it up. Bold and bitter earthy flavors, grapefruit citrus flavors and piney wood. Nice webby lacing. Walks the line as a barleywine. A bit boozy overall. Good, but is this really worth the hype? plovmand (1688), Helsinge, Denmark

I have had better DIPA´s, or maybe I just wasnt´t in the right mood for this beer. BMan1113VR (2822), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours with a clearish light, copper body, and a rocky, light brown head. Tons of caramel and toffee, lots of malts, some alcohol, light floral hops. Smells a bit like an American barely wine. Taste is hoppy, with caramel a decent amount of alcohol in the form of brandy, oxidation and more alcohol. Fizzyish, and a bit dry, which is not what I am looking for in a 9.6% IIPA sipper. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 10, 2008 Thick hazy amber with a thin head on this one. Aroma is mighty complex. My first thoughts was that this is similar to an old ale... yeah, not an IPA. Heavy earthy notes surround this sweetness... it’s like wood, then dark fruit, wet wheat and lemon. Yeah, the English ale-malt helps out here. The flavor is amazingly not hoppy. This has a huge malt flavor that brings in some light caramel sweetness this warming smoothness. There is only a faint acidic sweetness to the end of it, but there is a considerable spicy flavor here. In a blind tasting, Imperial IPA would be about the 9th guess for what style this is. Great beer, but not really what I expect from an IIPA. Madsnp (620), Odense C, Denmark
