600ml bottle from Sprinkle - thanks Mike! Lightly hazed dark amber with a foamy tan head. Huge nose is spicy orange and floral, solid caramel maltiness to back it up. Bold and bitter earthy flavors, grapefruit citrus flavors and piney wood. Nice webby lacing. Walks the line as a barleywine. A bit boozy overall. Good, but is this really worth the hype?

Bottle (1PT 4.3FL OZ.) Pours cloudy amber brown with a tight foamy sudsy khaki head that fades to a film and soapy collar. Aroma has nice faded hops and sugar caramel malt some toffee pitted dried fruit and sweet bread. Taste is dulled bitter faded hops with sugar caramel toffee and bread dark dried fruit, this is tasting very nice for being 3 plus years old. Palate is medium to full with a chalky dry finish. This is nice has aged into a solid strong ale or even a Barley wine of sorts.

From a 50cl bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy brownish amber with an off white head. Rich aroma if caramel and hops. Intense flavors of vanilla, caramel and floral hops. Wow. Nice.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of fig newtons, caramel, toffee, nutty maltiness and dried fruits. Medium body. More like an American Strong Ale at this point - still quite good.

This has been retired? I must be rather lucky to have a bottle sitting in front of me ready to be reviewed then aren’t I?
Appears rather ruby amber in colour, like a caramelised red toffee colour. There is a spider-like lace and head of marshmallowy cream colour. A slight haze in the body, but this doesn’t detract from the visual enjoyment. The nose is of pungent American hops with red gum, spruce and herbaceous grasses. It also has gorgeously floral characters provided by the malt: hibiscus, rose petals as well as candisugar, toffee, rich autumnal fruits and rosehips. In the mouth there is that more than generous malt character and a full, spicy, puckering bitterness. It has a beautiful body (cue Monica Belucci metaphor) like a voluptuous, smouldering Italian actress that I have been in love with for years. I thought she was stunning in The Apartment and Lady Malena. It is full, sexy and does something to your lips. You have to keep licking them as well as the inside of your mouth. The finish is lengthy and ought to be combined with generous applause.
I wonder why this was retired? I wish it wasn’t. Just gorgeous... it’s what abv you say?

Dufter af rug og sødt af malt bolcher. Både frisk og humlet og slik sød. Ikke typisk Ipa duft. Flot gullig skum som hænger for hårdt. Smager slik sød og vinøs. Tør og let bitter finish.

Thanks to Suttree for the trade! Extremely cloudy caramel brown color with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, raisin, earth, very light pine and grass hops. Taste is sweet fruits and malts with a decent bitterness. Medium bodied, spicy, a little dry. Strange for an IPA modeled after a California IPA, its more like a hoppy English strong ale or barley wine. Good, and unique within the style in my experience, but I’m not crazy about it compared to those who inspired it.

Hazy orange red pour with a creamy, light tan head. Excellent retention. Aroma is much maltier than I was expecting - Caramel, earthy, nutty, hint of citrus. Sweet up front, bittersweet mid-palate and finishes dry and bitter. Medium-full body, soft carbonation, moderate alcohol warmth.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hoppy, malty aroma has a strong yeasty overtone, not what I expect in an IPA. It pours a somewhat hazy cola brown with a fairly thick pale tan head that leaves substantial lacing. Hoppy flavor has subtle notes of caramel and grapefruit, and a whisper of fruity sweetness that offsets the bitter and sour tastes. Smooth flavor has decent body and a fair amount of fizz and life, leaving a hoppy and caramel undertone. Extreme? Maybe not, but recommended to IPA lovers.
