2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mcberko (4054) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 7, 2013
On tap at Nørrebro Bryghus, pours a dark mahogany with a medium tan head. Aroma of earthy notes, toasted malt and nuts, as well as bready notes. Flavour is much the same, but not exactly pungent in any of the notes, with slightly fruity notes, toasted nuts, and some earthy notes. Lacks the body of many of the superior doppelbocks I’ve had. Acceptable beer, but not a very complex one.

Mørk mild øl.

Det er en god rund og behagelig smag...

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ALLOVATE (2098) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - MAY 5, 2012
Just on cool and into a snifter. Produces up a deepest mahogany, not quite bright with a velvety, compact and tight off-white crown. Interestingly fruity nose; fortified red wine, heavily spiced stewed plums, dried fruit peel, sultanas and bitter/sweet raisins give me the impression of a fuelled Christmas fruit cake, lip smacking! Bitter burnt fruit seems to dominate the creamy and foamy palate. Bitter/sweet and drawing; it dries out towards the back, the alcohol well hidden. Has a buttery note it; roasted, dark malts come through well but it is the dark stone fruits that are at play the most. Tastes of plum wine, quite medicinal. Very long in the swallow becoming woody and earthy like damp loam and moss. I like it, I dislike it, I’m on the fence with this one. A pleasing Belgian, a lacklustre Doppelbock. Makes for a good slow sipper at Christmas! (33cL, TAP 08/02/10, Cellarbrations Carlisle)
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 berlinoise2go (477) - NORWAY - APR 8, 2012
Bottle (60cl). Small offwhite head, leaving a thin ring of foam, no lacing. Murky, reddish brown colour. Aroma dominated by malt and sweet, dried fruit (fig/raisin), but also notes of yeast, hops, soy sauce and vinegar. Medium body, average carbonation. Fairly sweet taste of malt and raisins, balanced by soy sauce saltiness and a growing acidity. Mildly bitter-sour finish.
