COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: 527 bottles of 37,5 cl made.

English: Seven Bordeaux Barrel is a very rich Russian Imperial Stout, brewed in October 2008 by 7 of the best brewers in Denmark as a pooling of their individual recipes for the beer. After primary fermentation, this fraction of the brew was racked into an American oak barrel from a Bordeaux winery. After 7 (!) months in the barrel, the beer is intensely complex, full bodied with protruding vanilla, oaky and roasted aromas and flavours. Bitter, dry and smooth on the palate with a long vanilla aftertaste.

Magnum Shared by Shaun. Pours a very rich viscous oily black body- nice orange beige head. Aroma is woody red wine barrels, tannic, earthy, some leather, dirt, ash, some chocolate malts, roasted barley, licorice, and tar-. Flavor is oily, tar, with earthy leathery woody wine barrels, red wine, tannins, mineral toast, some burnt notes, some slight fruits- and a fairly dry leathery mineral finish. Overall- this is less chocolate, less plum than the niepoort, but has more woody leather, and more wine character from the barrels which I think make this one a bit more complex refined and enjoyable.

Bottle shared with Craig, cheers to Craig and also to Jan and Charlotte who gave this to Craig I understand, Had this at my gaff, on third night of tasting 10-04-10 Pours black with a beige head. A wonderful but total confusion of flavour’s, fruity, woody and grapey flavours combine amusingly with the more intense dark, roasty and bitter flavour’s of the base beer. Its great and the Bordeaux Barrel ageing seem’s to really slap the Imperial stout about quite a bit, its tart, dry, bitter then tangy, soft fruits, grapes again, quite lovely but and a fantastic mix up. I would never say this beer seamlessly works with the barrel ageing because it doesn’t but I like it for the hotchpotch of flavours it leaves in the mouth. A8 A4 F9 P4 Ov17 4.2

Bottle from Madsberg. Pours a beautiful viscous black chocolate with a big creamy tan head that left some nice sheeted lacing. Big nose of chocolate, bittersweet cocoa, coffee, toffee and light booze. Brew was long and lingering on the palate with oak and chocolate.....some vanilla.

Thanks to Alex for the chance to try this! Inky pour. Can’t quite see through it. Big thick impy nose with lots of char and some light indistinct fruity notes. Big thick, charry, tarry with lots of alcohol late. Very burnt at times, but with lots of sweetness. Not hugely subtle. Dry finish for such a beer, quite woody still, but not as complex as it perhaps ought to be.

Pours thick and viscous, inky black. Leaves a rich coffee-colored head in its wake. Big aroma is not that hot. Is rich on the coffee and cocoa end of the spectrum with a bit of pleasant smokiness. Oddly enough I don’t smell a lot of wine but I do detect an herb like rosemary, faintly. Although served cold is just bursting with flavor. I don’t get a lot of wine until it warms up, and then it’s like drinking juice squeezed from the wood. More wood than wine. Vinousness is felt more than tasted, detected as a very dry wine barrel on the back of tongue. Finishes slightly burnt. Lots of cedar and aromatic woods. Intense all cocoa powder chocolate that is unrelentingly unsweetened. Very cool beer.

Nice nose - lots of oak, red winey notes, still black malts and roasted notes, dark malty sweetness as well, but really nice oak barrel notes. Black pour, dark brownish head and ring. Tons of red wine and fresh oaky flavors. Dark charred malts, dark fruit, black malts. Lots of wood and more red winey notes. Earthy and dry. Barrel really dries out. Solid carbonation, lively.

375ml capped shared by after4ever. Black and viscous with a beautiful creama head. Patent malt with a touch of cocoa and oak and a good amount of tanin. Bitter roasted malt and coffee, some light earthy woodiness, and lots of rich red wine tanins. Nice display of Bordeaux.
