Appears a dark midnight with a fluffy brown cap that sticks around. Streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of red wine character, wood, cocoa, grappa, coffee, and dark chocolate.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with huge red wine flavors, & dark chocolate melding as a gigantic marriage of faith and harmony. Absolutely beautiful.
Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, with sweet vanilla that lingers with oaky tannins hanging along the palate.

Can’t recall if I got this one in a trade with KingCecil or benzai as both were epic traders. Shared with the AZ crew during Woodshed 2.0. Dark ebony pour with a mocha colored crown. Cocoa, dark fruit, vanilla, oak, and the Bordeax is still there. Aroma more vibrant than the flavor. Hint of oxidation but still damn good. Shocked that I got to try this long time want!

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Balance is superb in this brew. Espresso tones cone through without too much bitterness therefore not overpowering anything else. Balanced out by light oak and vanilla undertones which add the right amount of sweetness to it. 12% never shows. Complexity and depth all balanced out nicely. Great stuff

Bottle from mane liquor. Pours a jet black with a dark orange head. Looks like a good espresso shot. Nose has oak vanilla, roasted espresso/malts and raisins. Taste is incredibly smooth probably the aging for 5 years. Oak vanilla dominates the taste! Fuck this is good shit

The beer is dark brown, approaching black. The liquid appears quite viscous. Mmm. Atop the beer rests a thin, beige collar.
The aroma offers roast, dark fruit, oak, vanilla, and a delectable tannic quality.
The flavor surpasses the aroma. A terrific beer that was not even on my radar. Complex and teeming with delicious flavor. The tannic aspect is unusual, but melds beautifully into the overall flavor profile.
The feel is full bodied and viscous with low carbonation. A delightful beer to sip and savor.
I would thoroughly enjoy having this again. Recommended.

A-- Poured a dark, sludgy reddish brown. Settled black with hints of ruby at the top of the beer. Slow building half finger of dark chocolate marshmallow looking head, quickly fades away to film and milk chocolate color. Film sticks around through drinking. Spotty lacing on the sides of the glass.
S-- Bordeaux right off the bat. Lots of wine like qualities in the nose. Dark coco, dark fruits, and Carmel underneath the barrel flavors. Lots going on here.
T-- Dark, bitter chocolate, dark bitter coco powder, coconut, Carmel, plumbs, and red wine.
M-- Lots of tannins in the front. Sticks to gums and to tongue. Rich, thick and coating. A little bit thin in the middle and finishes with a dry shiraz and coco powder finish.
O-- Prefer the port barrel to this. Still this is very, very good. A little slanted towards the wine at times but easy to drink and savor. Alcohol is well hidden and this is quite unique.

No head. Dark red-brown color. Huge madrification aroma. Sweet taste and big bitterness. The taste also resembles madeira. Big body.

Bottle courtesy of ygtbsm94. Served in a sampler glass. Pours near-black with a short tan head. The nose carries some nice wine and dark fruit notes along with light oak. Some roasted malt and a touch of chocolate. Flavor has nice wine and fruit notes along with roasted malt. Quite complex. Medium body with a semi-dry finish. Nice wine character; mellow. Impressive.

Opaque black beer. Short chocolate coloured head. Soft palate, fairly dry. Rich dark malt. Dark unsweet chocolate and coffee. Undertone of plummy fruits, minerals and spice. The red wine is subtle and somewhat out muscled by the Impy Stout characteristics. Gets a little more winey as it warms up. Hangs together pretty well.

Bottle @ Mikkeller with Gordon. Black. Very, very vinous with doses of vanilla and complex barrelling. Molasses, chocolate, blending with the best dark fruit notes I’ve yet experienced. Best collaboration brew? I think so.

0.375l bottle from 2009 @ Mikkeller Bar. The last beer this time unfortunately.. Anyhow, the pour on this one is a black as I’ve ever seen. Besides Mikkeller’s Geroge and Struise - Double black, this is the deepest blackest beer I’ve ever seen, and it has a tiny chocolate head that’s almost not worth mentioning since it fades extremely quickly. The aroma is also deep deep dark, roasted, has a nice perfect sweetness, lots of barrel and vanilla tones, dark rich berries, burned toast and some extreme dark chocolate. Amazing.. Fantastic rich and chewy texture in this one as well, just the way I like it. Rich, thick and so satisfying. Daaark and roasted flavors, molasses up to your knees, tons of Belgian dark chocolate, a chili-like burning twitch in the finish that just makes everything even more interesting. Warming with a vanilla-oaky-coconut-dark fruity aftertaste that’s just lasting forever! So good this one, I would have no problems drinking this all day long. Sip sip - I’m in love! 08.01.2012
