l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 31, 2009 Pours black with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. Huge roast and chocolate flavor. Strong coffee, roasted barley and chocolate flavors. Medium body, soft carbonation, dry finish. Very nice. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Oct 31, 2009 Bottle. Medium sized fizzy tan head that mostly diminished, mostly opaque black body, one ring of lacing, and very little carbonation observed. The aroma is roasty, chocolate, coffee, some nuttiness, and malty. The flavor is malty, roasty, licorice, coffee, chocolate, some dark fruits, hint of bitterness, and a dry finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and this is a medium bodied porter. Overall, this is a very quaffable beer, I enjoyed the taste of it, worthy of a try, and a beer I would drink again. corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 19, 2009
Pours a very deep dark brown, almost black with only the faintest of mahogany edges when held to a light source. Completely opaque with a two finger frothy beige head that slowly fades into a lasting ring.
Roasted malt aroma with hints of chocolate, caramel, oatmeal, nut, toffee, toast, honey, molasses and subtle hops. The deep roasted scent is nicely balanced by the sweetness of the cocoa and honey.
Smokey roasted malt flavor with hints of coffee, chocolate, toffee, oatmeal, hazelnut and toast. The sweetness of the honey, as well as the chocolate, provide a nice balance to the deep roasted malt profile. The mouthfeel is not as thick as I hoped with the addition of honey. It basically has the same feel as an average porter and it seems as if the honey has an affect just on the flavor, adding sweetness. Slight hop presence in the finish providing a very slight bitter dry finish. Well balanced and easy drinking with no trace of alcohol heat. Decent. marcus (1824), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 2, 2009 This dark brown porter poured with a foamy tan head and a roasted malt and coffee aroma. There is a rich malt flavor with lots of coffee and chocolate and a bit of treacle. rosenbergh (843), Helsinki, Finland Sep 26, 2009 600 ml bottle. Finland. BB 25.08.09.
Dark black/red brown colour with small tan head. Roasted malt, bitter hops, liquorice and coffee in aroma. Roasted malt, coffee, liquorice in flavour and some hoppy bitterness in aftertaste.
fidel (884), Livermore, California, USA Sep 3, 2009 Poured dark brown/black, creamy, roasted malts, chocolate, nutty, little coffe, little licorice. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 24, 2009 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a semi-opaque typically carbonated dark ruby red brown colored body and thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was sweet. The mildly vinous smooth mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of mildly vinous dark malt and brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again. madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 1, 2009 Bottle - Pours deep black with a huge bubbly tan head. Smells of licorice, honey, and lactose. It’s sweet and a bit boozy. Tastes smokier and roastier than it smells, and bitters nicely in the finish, but never really develops a personality. It’s more muddled than complex, though there are some interesting flavors in there. Feels good in the mouth, though the aftertaste of old coffee grounds leaves something to be desired.
