Bottle at Craig’s bit tasting, Edinburgh, 21-03-09 many thanks Craig. Also a big thanks to Miketd for passing on this little gem, cheers mate. There I was sat in the living room carefully prising off the wax from the neck of this bottle and then I get the bottle opener and gently eased off the top. Within a second I was smelling, tasting, and wearing this beer, it absolutely exploded out of the bottle and in another couple of seconds a large lake was forming out of the still pumping out bottle all across Craig and Stella’s carpet whilst I was panicking like the dopey one out of Dad’s Army not really achieving much. Two thirds of this well travelled beer lay gently seeping into the floor and we poured our now our three glasses. The colour was a murky puddle brown, aroma was bitter cherries and some oak. Flavour really tart, great cherry sourness really woke the tastebuds up after the previous beer. A very decent beer that had turned Craig back into a sour appreciator so much so they he gave up mopping up the carpet with paper towels and could be witnessed licking the shagpile, actually he didn’t go quite that far but of all the sours for this too happen to it was typical that it should happen to the one that Craig really liked. The smell is cherries, funk, oak, tart, and decent. The look is clear, bright red color, and has a whispy white head. The taste is fruity, ok, tart, cherries, funk, and slight wood. Sweet in taste and has a dry finish.

I’m assuming the so-called "Barton Kriek" that they have right now is this one... Had two snifters at the brewpub. A pretty plum red color with little head to speak of. Aroma is slightly funky from the brett, with cherry tones as well. Flavor is lots of cherry and the basic lambic sourness and acidity. Somewhat sweet, as well, and moderately carbonated. Overall a very quaffable drink - I had two. Goes well with chocolate, also. I don’t think NXNW aged this beer for very long, so it could maybe use another year or so, but it was still great.

Thanks to notalush for sharing this. Deep, deep red and purple colour with a thick sticky pink-red head. Aroma is loaded with sweet cherry aroma. A little bit of tartness, but not at all similar to the flemish red. There is a soft cinnamon aroma as well. A little bit acetic, but this character is a lot less restrained than in the flemish red as well. Soft spiciness mingling nicely with the cherry skins and pits. Soft yogurty lactic tartness... nice warm nutmeg spiciness. Quite rich, sweet and fruity. This is damn tasty stuff.
