grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 12, 2006 A beer of distinction orm this Brewpub. So beautiful. Goldenrod. Hazy gold beer, billowy white head. Nose is intriguing. Quite complex for a beer of this style from a texas brewpub. Sugary sweetness at first. Seemingly too sweet. This fades into a dryness like chardonnay. Oaky smoothness and the typical dried orange peel and grain of paradise, grey spiciness. Fruitiness then abounds. Soft kiwi, strawberry even. Flavors begin too striaghtforward. Then, in ninja like fashion become subtle and complex in a heroic way. Dry white grapes, fig juice, citrus and chalky grain of paradise spice. Good beer. Spritzy and thick as beer gravy.MMMMMmmmmmm
TURDFERGUSON (1153), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jun 11, 2008 Bottle from footbalm. Thanks Eric! Was very excited to pop this at the carolina gathering. Pours a cloudy yellow with a thin white head. Still had plenty of carbonation. Aroma was earthy, some lemon zest, apple, yeast, spices, lightly bready malts. Flavor was very similar to aroma but ends very abruptly making the finish a little disappointing, but overall this is still a pretty darn good saison in my opinion. OldGrowth (1282), Cary, North Carolina, USA Jun 2, 2008 bottle, at Carolina Crew get together provided by Turdferguson. Good aroma, Tart. Fruity. Apple and yeast spiciness. clean yellow golden color, little to no head or lacing. Sour fruity flavor. Minor sweet streak about it. Lite body, thin mouthfeel, dry finish. Aroma had alot going on, after that not so much with this one. I did get a clean pour as there was sediment in the bottle. Could of sniffed this one for a while. JCB (1069), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 25, 2008 Bottle shared at the Carolina Crew Gathering at Turd’s – thanks to Turd for sharing. Whoa, lots of swirling sediment in the bottle. Yeah, I guess this one has been retired for a good long while. Mild apple and spice in the aroma; coupled with the fact that the body looks quite thin, and the color is translucent gold, you could easily mistake this for a cider rather than a saison. Still it’s quite inviting. However, the body is really thin, and the flavors in the nose seem to have been replaced by an off-putting mineral quality. Average at this point. emacgee (1136), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA May 25, 2008 Thanks a ton to turdferguson for sharing this at the Carolina gathering. Pours a pale gold with a thin white head. The nose is sweet, earthy, lots of apple and fruit. Very inviting aroma. The flavor is a bit of a stepdown. Soft and mild flavor, apple, earthy, a little sweet, crisp. Very soft palate with almost no finish. Very easy drinking beer. MIBRomeo (1889), Wisconsin, USA Oct 2, 2006 heavily cloudy straw color small white head. aroma of some light fruits some orange peel and lemon zest. avg pal. flavor is lemon grass, oragne peel, and light breads. a very mellow saison that is easy to drink.
