bleeng (308), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Jan 18, 2008 My first ever #1 rating! On tap. Tasted after having 2 holiday ales so this could be skewed. Poured and looked like a stout. Nice malty, sweet nose. Thick, thick mouth with roasted malts and chocolates coming through bigtime. Great finish and almost too easy to drink. Not sure about the ABV on this. This brewery just keeps getting better through the years and I enjoy them branching out in beer styles. kramer (1888), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 26, 2008 22 oz bottle, via lb4lb, shared with BA Deuane. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy light brown head that had decent retention. A good bit of sediment noted in bottle. Nice chocolate and roast nose with a certain vinous quality to it. A lot of yeast character showing as well. The flavor is much the same as the nose, with a little cocoa and chalk. A lot of yeast in the flavor as well. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a watery texture and pleasant moderate carbonation. Overall, this was a decent Porter, nothing stand-out but drinkable. hopdog (4649), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 2, 2008 Bottle acquired in with lb4lb (thanks!). Poured a very dark and muddy brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, light caramel, and nutty. Tastes of chocolate (cocoa powder), caramel, lighter roast, and just a trace of coffee. Thinner but creamy body. lb4lb (1453), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 21, 2008 Updated: Jan 25, 2008Pours almost solid black with a nice creamy tan head that lasted a fair while. Smell was mild-ish with roasty malt, dusty cocoa powder and a bit chalky and nutty. Taste was on par with the smell, with a bit of a drying character and a roasty, chalky cocoa like flavor, but a bit of a creamy mouthfeel and very light carbonation in my bottle. Nice slightly drying mouthfeel and a pretty good and drinkable porter overall, I thought. Worth a try, for sure. mmm///beer (578), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 Sampler at NXNW- color of blackness, maybe 10% transparent, off-tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, very appealing. Hits the mouth with a wide body, roasted malts apparent but something was lacking right in the middle- can’t put my finger on it, finish is strong. It kind of starts strong, ends strong, but the middle is lacking.
