larryLSB (140), La Selva Beach, California, USA Jun 15, 2008 Beautiful dark amber color with good sized tannish head poured from 750.
Good malt flavor with a hint of sweetness. Nice aftertaste alcohol not to overwhelming. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 15, 2008 Brick colored autumn color with a small, well layered hour. Bubble gum and dark fruit in the nose, fairly nice, but could have more depth. Flavor has hints of honey covered fruits, decent belgian character and a decent finish. It’s an ok Belgian style beer, better than most American interpretations. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 8, 2008 Pours an amber or somewhat reddish body. Caramel malts and definately sweet tasting. Very little hops. Nice medium sized head, with aromas of syrup. I thought it would be better than it was for the price. But truthfully, I was a little dissapointed. BelgianBeerGal (1277), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jun 3, 2008 12oz bottle with cap, no cork. Pour mahongany brown with some ruby highlights. Very thin that disappeared quickly. Aroma was malt, sweet fruit and alcohol. Flavour with very nice with more candied fruit, some chocolate and warming alcohol. Very easy drinking Belgian Ale. well done. biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jun 2, 2008 Poured this into a goblet. Poured a dark amber color with decent head that dissipated rather rapidly. The aroma is malty with a touch of fruit at the end. Flavor is of dark fruit with a bit of alcohol in the taste. Mouthfeel is good. Drinkability is good, but the alcohol is a bit too present in the flavor.
WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 1, 2008 Deep orange copper color, not much head. Flavor is warm malt, yeasty bread, some banana, and caramel sugar. Some dark ripe fruit notes as well. Medium bodied. Smooth on the palate. A bit of alcohol burn at the end. For an American brewed Belgian style this is pretty good. I would only hope that with Thelonius Monk on the label, that we wouldn’t let him down. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 1, 2008 Pours a a clear copper with thick cream-colored head that quickly dissipates to a thin foam. Aroma is toasted sugars, malts, caramel. Flavor is Malty with definite sugars, almost like a dissolving sugar cube and hints of smoke. A pretty good/rich belgian abbey.
