RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA Apr 18, 2008 Updated: Jun 3, 2009Ruby amber with a fruity, yeasty nose. Flavor is abbey ale all the way - dark dried fruits and bready malts with yeasty goodness. Rich and tasty. Very good. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Apr 17, 2008 750ml bottle. Part of a blind tasting. Clear brown pour with nice head atop. Seems rated a bit high.. i didn’t find anything to exciting about this. Good but one of the weaker brews of the night. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 16, 2008 Opened up the bottle and it was a little bit of a gusher. Pours a ruby color with a decent size head. Aroma of some dark fruit and a little bit of yeast. Nice dark fruit flavor...very good and it seems to have a little bit of oak in there as well. I was actually quite surprised by this beer. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 16, 2008 750 ml. bottle, light head with a red amber color, excellent fruit and caramel flavor , great texture and body, a great beer highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Apr 12, 2008 Classis belgian look. Deep amber/mahogany color with a think white head (light lacing). Aroma of fruity dark esters (cherry and plum). Flavor is spot on with the fruit up front and lingering maltiness. A really nice abbey ale. I have stayed away from this for some time, but it is really good. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Apr 12, 2008 Bottle. About 1 yr old. Dried fruit and dark roasted malt aroma, some yeast. Reddish brown colors with quickly diminishing off white head. Strong fig, rasin and malt flavors. Oak and woody flavors, some earthiness. Medium palate. Dryish finish and sweet through the middle. Good flavors. Slight metallic bite. Warmingly alcholic. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Apr 12, 2008 Updated: Jun 20, 200812oz bottle. Clear reddish nut brown with small beige head. The aroma has some peaches and candied apples, along with a shot of salty soy sauce. The flavor is sweet and syrupy, with a salty nuttiness. The mouthfeel is smooth and slippery. Not doing too much for me, just seems like its on the fence. (3.1) Rerate: 75cl bottle. Much more yeast in the aroma and flavor, no soy, and a nice smooth palate. This one was definitely much better out of a bigger bottle. Balanced and quite drinkable for the strength. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 11, 2008 The flavor really starts to open up after the beer has sat out, opened up and has time to warm and breathe. Pours a deep mahog color with a small tope colored head. Nose is sweet and sugary dark fruits, and a bit of chocolate. Taste is sweet, balanced, chocolately, some caramel and has a decent medium mouthfeel. I did not enjoy this beer until it opened up.
