craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jul 13, 2007 On tap at Taco Mac, very good strong belgian ale out of CA. It was served a bit too cold so I had to wait a bit to enjoy it... but once it warmed up, the flavors were unleashed. I sensed a bit of banana and apricot. Wonderful palate and aftertaste... dark amber color. Recommended, but there are better ones out there... I would like to get a 750 ml bottle of this and pour it myself into a trappist glass and see how I like it then... boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Jul 7, 2007 A fizzy caramel brown head sits atop a darker brown body with unfinished cherry wood hues. Quick to fade, the head leaves behind thick gobs of lacing. The aroma is a rich blend of caramel and sugar malts, raisins, banana, dates, plum and some notes of fresh glazed donuts. Alcohol is somewhat concealed. The flavor is overly sweet, luckily it isn’t sickening. Light bitterness coupled with moderate to heavy acidity can’t stand up to pummelling caramel sweetness and sugary notes. The finish is sweet, then dries quickly and leaves gooey caramel residue behind. From first whiff to last sip this seems muddled and rushed, under-attenuated as well. The mouthfeel steers just to the light side of medium and is a quizzical mix of watery texture and sticky syrups. Carbonation is medium to high, fizzy explosions popping in all corners of the mouth. I really love this brewery and will continue to if the other staples remain relatively unchanged, but I had hoped for more. Bradrcr (778), Renton, Washington, USA Jul 4, 2007 On Draught at Washington Brewers Festival. Aroma is malty, sweet caramel forward with a strong dark fruit current. Beer is a solid brown with a light tan head. Flavor is malt forward again, followed by dark fruit, yeasty notes and no hop character. Palate has solid carb bite and medium body. Overall a lot of interesting complexity here, have to try it in larger quantity when I can. blklab2007 (935), Connecticut, USA Jul 3, 2007 pours a red brown in color with some nice lacing. smells of malts, some brown sugar sweetness, some fruits. taste is big on the malts and sweetness that almost sticks on the lips. the beer itself has some good ingredients but it does not blend together the way i would want. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jun 26, 2007 Corked Bottle Dark amber color to mahogany. Aroma of malt and the esthers; ripe plums, maybe apricots. Good malt flavor, dry, but the body could be stronger, at the end it’s quite thin; flavors of caramel and sweet liquorice; good bitterness level. Not impressive, but professionally brewed anyway. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 24, 2007 750 ml bottle - pours clear and deep reddish brown; thick and sweet aromas are fruity, malty and spicy; the alcohol has some bite at first, but smooths out as the richness of the flavors sink in 505 (271), Echo Park, California, USA Jun 23, 2007 Beautiful ruby color, with a small tan head. Sweet an yeasty aroma. Flavor is yeasty at first, and gets sweet and tart with a slight bitterness at the end. Medium-thick body, and a dry finish. Pretty good, jazzy. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jun 22, 2007 I’m very pleased with this deep ruby red color. Medium tan head, thick but faded fast. Pleasing fruity aroma, with raisin, also bubblegum, and then a higher alcohol giving it a layer of sweetness. Doesn’t seem real sweet at first but a lingering stickiness on the lips feels nice. Molasses soaked raisins. Quite fizzy, causing the finish to lack in depth, then an unwelcome bitterness rises to say goodbye.
