COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the developing interest in Belgian abbey ales and the monasteries that brew them, it’s time to remind the world that here in the U.S., we have a Monk of our own. Jazz icon Thelonious Monk is the inspiration for North Coast Brewing’s new Belgian-style abbey ale called, appropriately enough, Brother Thelonious. The beer is being released in conjunction with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (www.monkinstitute.org), and the brewery will make a contribution to the Institute for every case sold to support jazz education.
2013 vintage - 9.4% abv Like a Belgian “Dark Strong Ale”, the beer is rich and robust with an ABV of 9%. The package is a 750 ml bottle with a traditional cork and wire finish and features a label picturing the jazz master himself.

Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a shaker at Plush with dinner. Absolutely love the name and artwork. It poured a cloudy deep brown color with creamy, long-lasting beige foam, nice spritzy little bubbles and lace. Very pretty and aromatic. True-to-style Belgian Dubbel aromas and flavors, very toffee-like, smooth, some alcoholic warmth. Tasty, authentic, better than some.

Bottle. Dark brown color with an off white head. Slight fruity aroma. Sweet dark fruit flavor. Alcohol isn’t as prevalent as it should be. Untill it warms.

New beer rater, but I will try. Beer looked appealing, but head was very short. Relatively light to medium feel on my tongue. Okay going down, but aftertaste was much better.

Clean crisp taste, however taste is not long lasting. Appearance starts strong, but is short lasting. Not a bad beer, but far from a favorite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at ChurchKey poured into a tasting snifter. Pours a dark ruby color with half a finger of off-white head. Aromas of dark fruit, Belgian yeast. Tasting notes of dark fruit, yeast, caramel, candied fruit, light dark chocolate. Medium body with a dry finish. Thin mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Fairly smooth.
