COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the developing interest in Belgian abbey ales and the monasteries that brew them, it’s time to remind the world that here in the U.S., we have a Monk of our own. Jazz icon Thelonious Monk is the inspiration for North Coast Brewing’s new Belgian-style abbey ale called, appropriately enough, Brother Thelonious. The beer is being released in conjunction with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (www.monkinstitute.org), and the brewery will make a contribution to the Institute for every case sold to support jazz education.
2013 vintage - 9.4% abv Like a Belgian “Dark Strong Ale”, the beer is rich and robust with an ABV of 9%. The package is a 750 ml bottle with a traditional cork and wire finish and features a label picturing the jazz master himself.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel malts and dried fruits. Taste is also very fruity, berries, malts (caramel) and some dough yeast notes too; it has a bit of tartness to it. Not a bad beer, a bit fruity for my taste but nice.

Kjøpt på systembolaget i Strømstad. Mørk cola i fargen. Tørket frukt i duften. En del smak av malt.

Wonderful flavor and enjoying it by the pool in Vegas. Easy drinking even with high abv. Will purchase at home for sure.

Pours intense, deep brown. Flavor reminds Belgian dubbel but not so fruit estery, more malt-dark caramel, dark sugar oriented with moderate to moderate+ dry palette. Quite sharp textured and carbonated-sugary rough. I wouldn’t say that it has rich flavor, decent, drinkable but one time try.

Pours a deep brown color with a small head. Aroma of prunes and raisins. Flavor matches with addition of a nice brown sugar note.

Enjoyed on tap at Southside Spirit House in SF. Lovely sticky caramel toasted nose. Juicy chocolate and grape taste. Finishes with a toffee linger.

Deep chestnut brown beer with a medium tan head that disappears quickly. Rich nose of stewed prunes, dark vinegar, and brown sugar. Flavor is as rich as the nose, replete with raisin, balsamic, and a bit of alcohol burn. Somewhat viscous with a fizzy effervescence, this is a pleasant beer with quite a bit of flavor, but actually should have more.

Alcohol is strong but not as strong as you’d think for a 9.something% ABV. Good abbey brew but not too much on the yeasty side. A good malty note and definitely a strong ale. Not bad. Not ideal either.

Almost any difference between this and Chimay Bleue. But since the Chimay tastes like magic then this does so as well.
