Smooth, silky texture; lively carbonation, but not too lively. Wonderful elements of molasses, brown sugar, chocolate, fig, sour cherries and sweet raspberry. Nice level of bitterness to round things out. Dryish finish. Good stuff. boto (1352), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 10, 2008 750ml bottle: First off, I love the name. It is a great play on words. This one pours an opaque reddish-brown color. Mine had a large, fizzy tan head on it that went away almost immediately. It has a very nice aroma. Somewhat candy sweetness, along with cherries, plums and yeast. A touch of effervescence on the tongue. The taste is quite good also. The taste is good. Somewhat sweet, caramel, raisins and dark cherries to the taste. Finishes a bit lighter than expected. I would definitely buy another. Indra (2041), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 3, 2007 750ml bottle. Interesting aroma, full of dark, sweet malts, dried fruits, breadiness and faint milky chocolate, along with some light orange zest, yeast esters in the background and a certain dusty spiciness. Clear, deep mahogany color with a mostly subsiding, uneven, off-white head. The dark, rich sugary maltiness comes through rather strongly in the flavor as well, where it meets an undercurrent of warming, peppery alcohol and doughy, fruity yeast, finishing with some lingering anise, raisin and a slight berryish tang. Smooth and full on the palate with a suitably large body. Not one to be overlooked. HighlanderOne (547), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Poured from big bottle. Aroma of burnt caramel. Dark mahogany with tan head that thins out. A lot of things going in in the flavor - molasses, raisin, plum, banana, and pepper. Flavors are well blended and hide the 9% ABV well. Good finish. A fine beer. mjg74 (2001), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 18, 2006 Bottled. Pours a dark ruby/brown color with minimal head. Strong sweet aroma. Some dark fruity qualities. Some sweet candy. A little bit of a yeasty/banana aroma as well. Rich dark fruity flavor right up front. A bit of roasted maltiness. A hint of bubblegum. Finish is slightly grainy and bitter. Overall I would say that this is good stuff. Dogbrick (2925), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Sample at Bodega. This brew is a deep reddish-amber color with a medium thin and creamy light tan head that dissipates steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of berries, yeast and sweet malt. Medium body with flavors of yeast, candi sugar, malt and fruit. Notes of alcohol as well. The finish is ripe fruit and sweet malt with a plum and yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall. Aroma has a sweet Belgian caramel malty and tart fruity cherry character. Body starts sweet and viscous with a toffee malty sweetness and fruity complex tartness. Well-balanced and unique, with authentic Belgian yeasty character throughout. Dickinsonbeer (3604), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 25, 2006 BCTC prefest. Pours a moslty clear deep copper with a nice fluffy off white head and high carbonation. Aroma is caramel malts, fruity esters, raisin, along with lighter herbal phenols and spicy yeast. Flavor is also yeasty, caramel and toasted malts, light fruit, light chocolate, and a nice herbal bitter finish. Mouthfeel is a bit airy at first due to the high carbonation but mellows out towards the end and finishes nice and dry. Nice american Belgian Strong ale.
