Pours from the bottle a clear gold with a foamy white head. A heady aroma of yeast, barnyard funk, spices and fruit. Those are all present in the taste, but there’s a bit of sweetness present as well. The fruit - banana, apple, grape, some citrus - really comes through with great balance. Medium mouth, but a little chewy. Still, the carbonation gives this beer the crispness you expect from a saison. La Merle will definitely be added to my list of favorite farmhouse ales.

A softly hazed straw colored body displays several streams of carbonation beneath a 1" tight frothy head creating several thin arcing peninsulas and dots of lace

Subtle fruity rustic notes, well integrated nuances of lemon and cantaloupe with light tropical characteristics over wheat and light pepper along with a touch of acidic earthiness on a medium weight body finishing with a rounded burst of dryness, somewhat creamy with bright pepper and citrus residuals

12oz bottle served at 45º into 15oz Stölzle water goblet

Pours a clear yellow orange with short lived white head. Aroma instead and flowers. Taste follows nose. Carbonation is huge.

Translucent golden with a thick head and lively carbonation. Aroma of hay, floral. Taste of grass and berries. A bit yeasty. Has a strange tartness that lingers for awhile.

Solid cloudy apricot colored pour with half inch of white head. Strong scent of saison yeast and lemon, sour watermelon, apples, and some barnyard funk. Lively carbonation, thinner mouthfeel, clean finish with a sour taste. Flavor of belgian yeast predominantly, lots of bitter pepper, a bit chemical-y, citrus and floral hops, clove and cardamom as well. Kind of bitter/astringent overall but nice robust saison.

Pours a semi clear light golden color with a big soapy white head that settles to a ring and good lacing. Aroma is classic Belgian yeast with juicy fruit flavors, some grain and mild spice. Taste is similar with the juicy fruit and some biscuit malt backbone. Mild clove spiciness comes through with a fine thread of barnyard funk. Slight bit of grassy bitterness. Finishes mostly dry. Mouthfeel and body are medium and feel a little heavy for the style, with medium /high carbonation. Good and drinkable despite being sort of average.
