3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Lemony aroma presents itself even before I can take in its appearance. Milky golden appearance with a lively fizzy head. More citrus in the taste with peppery notes and a bit of a souring effect.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Grains of paradise, earthy hop, pepper, as well as hints of tropical fruit in the nose. Light golden body with a small head of white bubbles. Vinous (sauvignon blanc) type malt flavor initially, with lemon rind and tropical fruit like flavors. Fairly hoppy as well, with an herbaceous, weedy like finish. Pretty tasty Saison, considering itís from the USA.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Beer pours a clear, medium gold color with a small, light gold, frothy, mostly diminishing head with a couple tidy trails of carbonation slowly plodding through to the top. The aroma is heavily malty with toasted grain (and slightly husky); Moderately hoppy with notes of herbs, lemon/citrus, chamomile and clean, dry straw; Heavily yeasty with notes of fresh bread and cellar; Miscellaneous esters of moderate strawberry, trace banana and honey and heavy, dry spice. The flavor is moderately bitter and lightly sweet with a long, moderately alcoholic, lightly bitter finish. The body is light-to-medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively. Thereís a moderately alcoholic feel to the finish, too. Definitely not as complex and earthy as some of the other Saisons Iíve had this far, but itís not bad.

500 Ml Corked and wire-caged bottle - Whole Foods Campbell CA
Appearance: Cloudy, Golden with hints of
orange in it. Pours with a gigantic near white rocky head which soon settles into some lace on the beer
Aroma: Yeasty (wild) with some mild grassy hop nose
Flavor: Starts with malty sweetness, followed by delicious sourness balanced by some bit of hops which finishes on the malty side. The flavor does not seem to match the wild yeast character the aroma hints at.
Palate: Finishes with a wonderful lingering sourness and some of the funky yeasty flavors which get better as the beer wams up.
Overall: A very delicious saison amongst the few Saison offerings. For me it seems that it finishes sweeter than Saison du Pont...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - corked and caged. Courtesy of hopdog! Pours a rich, cloudy gold with a fluffy, effervescent, white head. Nose is Yeasty and floral with a nice bit of dried fruits and grains. Light spices as well. Belgian yeast, banana, light coconut, bit of barnyard, flowery hops, light cardomom, candied orange, and wheat. Taste is very yeasty and cobwebby as well. Lots of Belgian yeast notes, light spicy hops, fresh flowers, light tangerine, bit of barnyard, and grains. Like a saison split with a witbier, almost. Very good, though! Body is light and very bubbly. Dryness in spots as well. Finishes with lots more Belgian yeast notes, flowery hops, spices, and grains. Light tangerine, candied orange, cardomom, fresh flowers and wheat. Very nice stuff!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is sharp, citrric, fruity and mildly funky. Rich yellow/orange in color with a firm thumb thick white head. Fore is very citrusy with strong bannana and yeast flavors following and it finishes fruity/bitter like grapefruit rind. I rather like this attempt at a Saison even though at times it almost has a Hefeweisee feel to it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours cloudy yellow/gold, with a white head. Aromas are yeast, fruit, and some spice. Flavors are hops, citrus fruit, spice, and yeast. Nice, but not exactly what I think of as a classic saison. Thanks to Larry Pitonka for this bottle.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle-corked 500 ml-fine particulate bright fizzy yellow with a 1/2 inch rocky topping. big tropical fuit notes abundant-one of the most wonderful aromas I have ever witnessed. cantelope, mangos, smells like a tropical fruit salad. lite sugars, lite saison farmhouse note (this would develop over time). Honey dew, lemons and twangy dry yeast which rounds out the finish. Dry, spritzy feel on the finish as well. Feels like a saison should and a very good representation of this style. The tartness is ever present in the mid palate. finish also exhibits grains of paradise, sweetarts (lemon), and a lite white grape note sparkling juice note. I find this beer to be t ruely delicious and could be the best american saison i have ever had!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2006 750 cork and wire. Got this, where else but Whole Foods. It pours with a light orangish color, with a beautiful full head. Cannot see through the beer, always good. Fresh, crisp aroma. Taste of summer in your mouth. Overall a good attempt at a belgian special.
Rerate 8/27/06. 500ml cork and wire from Whole Foods again. It was on sale for 3.50 so I thought why not give it another shot, may have been to hard the first time. It is a very good looking beer, poured into a Duvel tulip. Colr is a murky golden with a mediumk forthy head. Aroma is very present - citrusy lemon and plenty funk. Taste seems for me as too reserved for a saison. Its like they try to make it really funky but stop short. Leaves a sweet lemon aftertaste.
