DTM (399), Winters, California, USA May 2, 2008 Bottle from Booze Bros. in Reno, NV. Poured a very dark brown, almost black. Smell of coffe and chocolate. A little on the dryer side for a stout, which really brought out the roasted malt flavor. Great brew!!
KnN (313), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Oct 7, 2008 Pours a deep brown color with a thin off white head. Aroma is roasted malt and a hint of coffee. A lot of malt undertones going on.
Flavor is unfortunately a bit bitter and thin. The flavor doesn’t quite follow through with the aroma and there’s a really distinct aspirin bitterness going on. Not entirely pleasant. BrewDad (1691), Olympia, Washington, USA Oct 4, 2008 Pint - Peaks Brewpub - Port Angeles, WA
Aroma – Deep dark malt aroma with a lingering of chocolate and coffee.
Appearance – Dark Brown in color, clear, with a thin head.
Flavor – Nice dark malt flavors toasty with a chocolate and coffee flavor with that deep rich flavor.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, Nice texture with a dry chocolate finish.
Overall – This is one of the better beer for the night. Loved the flavor this went down very smooth and was a delight to drink.
Snojerk321 (1021), San Diego, California, USA Oct 2, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a clear dark mahogany under a fizzy quickly receding beige head. Some lacing though. Aroma is fairly light, mostly a burnt and roasted maltiness with a light anise and chalk accent. Flavor is roasted and burnt malt with a good bit of astringency. Finishes dry and moderately bitter with some coffee and chalkiness. Mouth feel was lighter bodied with a fairly watery texture. Carbonation is active and fizzy. nqualls (422), Tennessee, USA Oct 1, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a creamy, two finger brown head. Aroma of malt and coffee. Flavor is dry with malt and coffee. Body is way too light for a beer like this. Not impressed at all. bretupdegraff (101), Fishers, Indiana, USA Sep 27, 2008 poured dark with creamy tan/brown head.chocolate aroma and hint of coffee. Taste is malty and a bit dark fruity - good flavor
