timfoolery (379), California, USA Jun 29, 2008 This brew wasn’t my cup of tea. It was a bit more smokey/nutty than I woud’ve liked. Overall, I’m not a huge fan of North Coast. They’re not quite malty enough (except for Old Stock) and seem a little thin.
blutt59 (955), Dallas, Texas, USA Dec 4, 2008 bottle, walnut colored pour with a slight tan ring, nose of cocoa, malt and peat, flavor is a malty cocoa, smoke and fruit, flavor is slightly thin mcsquint (57), , Missouri, USA Nov 30, 2008 Poured from 12oz bottle into pint glass.
Aroma - Chocolate and toasted malts with notes of semi-sweet chocolate, coffee and floral.
Appearance - Nearly opaque black with ruby red tinges when held to light source. 2 finger tan head with decent retention. Light lacing
Flavor - Toasted and chocolate malt, coffee and well balanced notes of floral and citrus hops.
Palate - Medium mouthfeel. Nicely carbonated for the style. Dry finish
Overall - Goes down smooth. A little heavy on the citrus for my taste. Still, very well made and tasty. Could definitely drink a few.
CaryTheDude (489), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Nov 29, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. I done been spoiled by imperial stouts. All un-imperials taste too thin. That being said, excellent for something thin. Chocolaty nose. Same in flavor, with some coffee-ness. Solid. lithy (385), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 28, 2008 Dark black with slight brown at the edges two nice creamy fingers of tan head leaves a brown splotchy lacing as it recedes. Dark roasted malts, coffee, and slight sourness/astringency. Big roasty malt taste, light coffee bean and good hoppy bitterness in the finish. nuplastikk (521), USA Nov 26, 2008 12oz bottle. Deep black-red color. Toffee and chocolate aroma. Initial dry mouthfeel leads to a smooth, smoky, malt finish. Hops are more present than in your typical Stout, giving it a pleasant balance. Lots of roasted malt in the finish. A nice Stout.
