COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Seems hard to believe that weve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but thats whats happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, weve brewed a special small batch thats been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. Its bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and its amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer.

This entry is for all anniversary Bourbon BA Old Rasputin releases.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2013 Pitch black pour slight head. Aroma of bourbon, like smooth watered down jack and a touch of vanilla. Taste has a lot of stout and vanilla with some bourbon booziness. Taste is similar to a darker version of backwoods basterd. Medium thickness for a stout. Really good stuff.

tried this again after a year. XV bottle. Not sure what happened, but the results were not good. Drain pour.

XVII bottle. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a dark brown color coming close to black and an off white to tan one finger head that dissipated within about a minute and a half leaving a light stringy sliding lacing. The smell started off with a thick rich sweet luscious chocolate. After about a minute of warming, a nice roasty coffee enters and sprinkles in some vanilla. Id say it took a good half an hour to warm before the bourbon made any presence and when it did a light woodiness came about. The taste was layered just like the smell in pretty much the same order. A big super sweet sticky chocolate aftertaste bled into a semi dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. The carbonation seemed to have been pretty smoothed out as it just rolls across my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good bourbon barrel aged RIS. Id have this again.

Very thick and powerful. A bit too thick and hides the bourbon flavor. Ended up mixing with an English Alecto get the bourbon to come through ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to Chris Schneider. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate, wood notes, maybe light vanilla, but not massive. Taste - dark and creamy chocolate, tangy toffee note, dry wood backdrop. Palate - massive creamy body, with a big creamy/woody middle section and a dry balanced finish, where the wood clings on. Overall - this is great. I think it would develop brilliantly in the bottle.

Vintage XV. Not much head at this point. Aroma is still a strong bourbon presence with light bitter sweet chocolate, some light roasted old coffee bean.

Flavor has a trace of dark fruit up front followed by mild dark chocolate with oak, bourbon and a sugar raisin finish. The sip displays a light warming sensation after the swallow that even at this age reminds me it is a serious stout. The actual alcohol favor is pretty much hidden. Mild secondary oak hints. The body is a tad thinner then I was wanting or expecting. I would never call it watery ( because of the great bourbon presence ) but nowhere near the fullness I have gotten in others of the BBA stouts. Still really exceptional, dont misinterpret any of this. I just held on to this maybe a year to long.

Most recent vintage, 500 ml bottle. Nice mocha head quick to lace, 1 cm sticks to the top. Woody chocolate-covered cherry aroma. Less body than I was hoping for. Slight metallic taste and tons of wood. Roasty hints of coffee. Slight barleywine taste of old hops. Hint of bourbon. Blowing my nose, I just got the taste of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat in my mouth. I dont know, maybe this is a nuanced counterpoint to the heavyweight hammer blow of BCBS. Its good, but I like BCBS more. Im sure that makes me some kind of simpleton. Thin mouthfeel is my biggest complaint.

XVII bomber poured into a snifter darkest brown black with a massive tan head. Aroma is boozy sweet roasty. Flavor sweet upfront with plenty of bourbon. Moderate chocolate. YUM! Not as thick as I prefer in an imperial stout but way beyond the norm. Have had several BBAOR over the past few years. This one is the highest ABV & done nicely. Bought 2. Going to lay the other down for a future vertical.
