COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Seems hard to believe that we’ve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but that’s what’s happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, we’ve brewed a special small batch that’s been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. It’s bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and it’s amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2013 Pitch black pour slight head. Aroma of bourbon, like smooth watered down jack and a touch of vanilla. Taste has a lot of stout and vanilla with some bourbon booziness. Taste is similar to a darker version of backwoods basterd. Medium thickness for a stout. Really good stuff.

tried this again after a year. XV bottle. Not sure what happened, but the results were not good. Drain pour.

Smells sweet, oaky, chocolaty, vanilla, French roast. Very smooth. Boozy. Oak, bourbon taste, wood. Licorice?? I wish I had the regular good olde Old Rasputin to taste side by side...

Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, molasses, tobacco, some chocolate. Black with a fully lasting tan head. Dry, strong, boozy, sharp, some mild vanilla flavors. Full bodied, well carbonated, finishes with lingering roasty flavors and hop bitterness, very warming.

Smokey chocolate and warm bourbon aromas. Light tan head and black body. just like old rasputin with soft bourbon notes. Smooth and a little hot in the end.

Appearance: smooth near black pour, with a short, caramel colored head of creamy bubbles that fade, but will revive if swirled. Aroma: dark chocolate, powerful whiffs of vanilla, some toasted oak and smoke, hint of licorice, and a good dose of bourbon. Taste: chocolate, vanilla, cream, espresso, light licorice, molasses, and a solid woody, sweet and boozy undertone. Finish: firm, velvety palate with lingering chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon. Notes: Bottle labeled "XIV", 11.5% ABV. Laid it down for two years to let it smooth, and was glad of it. The barrel aging is handled masterfully, and it takes a better than average stout (regular Old Rasputin) and turns it into something extremely good. A great sipper.

Pours black with a thin beige head. Milky, bourbon chocolate aroma. Taste is strong and rich with notes of bright fruit, licorice and mint. Finish is boozy.

At my place with Taylor, Matt, and Jake. Pour is black With thin layer of lacing. Aroma is big toasted malt, burnt malt, bourbon. Taste is big dark burnt malt, dark chocolate, big booze. A nice beer, but the regular old raspy might be better, the bourbon is too booze is maybe a little too much.

Barrel aged Old Rasputin XVI North Coast Brewing Russian Imperial Stout 11.3% ABV APPEARANCE: Out of the bottle it appears to be a dark chocolate brown, once in the glass it settles to a deep rich black. Nice billowy tan head with great retention. AROMA: Starts off like a melted Hershey bar with a touch of roasted marshmallows. That bourbon flavor comes crashing in bringing with it oak, vanilla, and ends with a smack of heat from the alcohol. Hits almost a little to hard. MOUTHFEEL: This is where I separate a great BA stout from an amazing BA stout. It falls a little thin here on the body. Decent carbonation that has a nice prickly feel on the tongue. OVERALL: Very great stout, the bourbon booziness gets a little overwhelming and the thin body are the only downfalls for me. Well that and the $20+ price tag. Glad I got to have this and overall it is a solid outing from North Coast brewing. RATING: 4.2/5 Zombie heads! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 11, 2014 XII Version from bottle - Black pour with off white head. Nice nose of roasted malt, vanilla, barrel, and chocolate. Taste follows the nose on the flavor side but it seems a little faded. A little bitterness from coffee and chocolate. Heading downhill. Not holding up to aging very well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
