COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Seems hard to believe that we’ve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but that’s what’s happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, we’ve brewed a special small batch that’s been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. It’s bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and it’s amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer.

This entry is for all anniversary Bourbon BA Old Rasputin releases.

XV edition. 10 ounce sample on tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe (a couple weeks ago). The aroma is a bit roasted with plenty of bourbon, woodiness, and vanilla character. Some chocolate sweetness is also present. Really nice aroma, but it could be more aromatic. A little faint. Opaque black body with a creamy tan head and great lacing left behind. Starts a little sweet with some vanilla character, before more bourbon flavor comes through in the middle. Becomes a bit woody. Finishes dry with more hints of bourbon. Ethanol is hidden nicely. The body is a bit light, and this is a touch too dry for me.

dense beige head leaves some lacing. coffee coloured. aroma is lots of bourbon, wood, vanilla, boozy. tase like aroma, lots of dark chocolate, roasted malts, some molasses with a long bitter finish. silky smooth body, pours thick, medium carbonation. superb, not a sweet cloying BA mess like some others RIS’es! bottle (reads) 50cl (is 75cl?) / XII vintage

(This rating is for XII) Standard malty stout smell. Taste is a great mix between chocolate, malt, and bourbon. Low carbonation, medium to full body, and smooth.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a chalice on 02.21.15. A: Lots of vanilla with chalky cocoa, dark fruit, and milk chocolate. A: 2 1/2 finger head that stays. Midnight black body with no red in the glass. T: Vanilla and milk chocolate dominate. Slight dark berry and coffee are subtle. P: Smooth and too bubbly. Medium chewy. O: There was lots of alcohol heat in this one. It burned quite a bit going down. It doesn’t have the bitter sting like the base version has, so the barrel must have smoothed it out some. It was ok, but I wouldn’t buy it again at the price ($23.75). The flavors were too subtle.

Explosivt kraftig arom. Läder, choklad, tobak, vanilj, kanske lite kaffe. Fullständigt svart brygd. Tätt bra skum men dåliga lämningar. Söt, kraftig smak med toner av mörk choklad, vanilj och en aning bourbon och espresso. Fyllig kropp och en mjuk kolsyra. Eftersmaken bär på en trevligt avrundad röstning.

0.5l bottle - XII. Slightly reddish black body, light brown head that collapses quite quickly. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, bourbon, spicy hops, vannilla and sour cherries. Taste of chocolate, bourbon, sour cherry and lots of roasted malts in the finish. Medium body, warming alcohol. Very nice.

All over the place! Good good good but where to start. Bourbon, chocolate, cherry, raisin, espresso. Have to sip on it and take your time to get to know it. Enjoyed it immensely. Bottle from St. Petersburg, FL bottleshop.

Bottle to glass. XVII anniversary. Pours a thick deep brown to black color with a creamy medium brown head. Aroma is a nice roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon. Flavor is a bit lacking on the barrel compared to some of the other top rated BA imperial stouts, but not necessarily a bad thing. Still an extraordinary stout!

Bottle. Opaque black body. Short tan head. Bold aroma of chocolate, cherry, wood, roasted malts, char. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Taste of sweet chocolate and tart cherries, oak wood and light bourbon. Nicely balanced if not a bit on the sweet side. Still, a lot going on in this rendition that’s enjoyable.

500 ml Bottle of XVII Vintage. Dark cola colored in appearance with a dense layer of cappuccino foam. Notes of dark chocolate syrup, caramelized sugars and bourbon barrel in the aroma as well as some vanilla bean and coffee around the edges. Taste is roasted malt, bourbon and bittersweet chocolate upfront with a bit of espresso, molasses and vanilla in there as well. Also some citrusy hops bitterness toward the end. Mouthfeel is suitably thick and creamy with soft carbonation and more toasted oak and dark sugars in the finish. Different but equal to regular Old Raspy.

Bottle, black opaque body, huge brown sugar colored head dissipated quickly to a skiff leaving nice lacing. Aroma molasses, cookies, vanilla, boubon, toasted barley, raisin. Flavor is a tad metally, molasses, coffee, anise, raisin, cherries, citrus rind bitterness, whiskey. Palate is a bit light carbonation is quite soft, seems like there’s a lot, but it’s not sharp and obtrusive, more like a nitro somehow. Finish is dry, coffee and whiskey. I like this better than BA Narwhal, just because it’s dryer, less sweet. Alcohol is a bit sharp, as are the hops. I think a year on this in the cellar could be amazing.
