COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Seems hard to believe that weíve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but thatís whatís happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, weíve brewed a special small batch thatís been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. Itís bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and itís amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer.

This entry is for all anniversary Bourbon BA Old Rasputin releases.

Bottle, thanks to Peter for sharing! Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, dark coffee, burnt and ashy notes, oak, lots of bourbon, alcohol, dark fruits and black cherry notes. The flavor follows the nose with lots of bourbon, charred oak, ashy and burnt notes, roasted malt, dark coffee, dark fruits, vanilla, black cherry and subtle dark chocolate. The body is medium with a silky mouth feel. Overall a tasty BA Imperial Stout, but a little disappointing thinking of the price and the regular Rasputin.

Bottle thanks to Chris Schneider. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate, wood notes, maybe light vanilla, but not massive. Taste - dark and creamy chocolate, tangy toffee note, dry wood backdrop. Palate - massive creamy body, with a big creamy/woody middle section and a dry balanced finish, where the wood clings on. Overall - this is great. I think it would develop brilliantly in the bottle.

On tap at Fischman's Chicago, XV release. Enjoyed the normal old Rasputin better, very very boozy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Vintage XV. Not much head at this point. Aroma is still a strong bourbon presence with light bitter sweet chocolate, some light roasted old coffee bean.

Flavor has a trace of dark fruit up front followed by mild dark chocolate with oak, bourbon and a sugar raisin finish. The sip displays a light warming sensation after the swallow that even at this age reminds me it is a serious stout. The actual alcohol favor is pretty much hidden. Mild secondary oak hints. The body is a tad thinner then I was wanting or expecting. I would never call it watery ( because of the great bourbon presence ) but nowhere near the fullness I have gotten in others of the BBA stouts. Still really exceptional, donít misinterpret any of this. I just held on to this maybe a year to long.

Most recent vintage, 500 ml bottle. Nice mocha head quick to lace, 1 cm sticks to the top. Woody chocolate-covered cherry aroma. Less body than I was hoping for. Slight metallic taste and tons of wood. Roasty hints of coffee. Slight barleywine taste of old hops. Hint of bourbon. Blowing my nose, I just got the taste of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat in my mouth. I donít know, maybe this is a nuanced counterpoint to the heavyweight hammer blow of BCBS. Itís good, but I like BCBS more. Iím sure that makes me some kind of simpleton. Thin mouthfeel is my biggest complaint.

XVII bomber poured into a snifter darkest brown black with a massive tan head. Aroma is boozy sweet roasty. Flavor sweet upfront with plenty of bourbon. Moderate chocolate. YUM! Not as thick as I prefer in an imperial stout but way beyond the norm. Have had several BBAOR over the past few years. This one is the highest ABV & done nicely. Bought 2. Going to lay the other down for a future vertical.

0.5L bottle poured into a snifter. Warm, mellow bourbon caramel, wood, and chocolate aromas strike the nose with a touch of lactose sugar and dark fruit blended in nicely. A second wave hits the nose late with cereal, honey (?!), and nuts coming to the forefront. Even later, aromas of bread crust / toast and caramel candy become dominant. The beer pours and opaque black hue with a brown, pillowy soft head that retains a generous, thick layer throughout the drink. It leaves a caking of snowy lace on the glass ... I think I have a new standard for what a 5 looks like when it comes to Imperial Stouts. The taste is a medium high bitter with a medium high sweet. The beer is thick, slick, and creamy with a soft, fuzzy carbonation. The full body is heavy with bourbon caramel and wood flavors, as well as lactose as it warms, and a light tobacco accent. It finishes with a mellow, warm bourbon and dry clean spice. As it warms up, roasted nuts and tobacco appear in the finish. The aftertaste is dry and spicy with a smokey, mild ash and tobacco flavor that ends up lingering. The aftertaste settles on tobacco and dark chocolate at first, but later in the bottle, the aftertaste is dry, clean, and clove like. This is a wonderfully complex beer ... as well as one of the most expensive per ounce purchases Iíve ever made.

Bottle - XVI - Boozy chocolate, marzipan, vanilla and a ton of bourbon notes. Deep jet brown with a rich light brown head. Chocolate, coconut, vanilla and light bourbon notes. Thankfully not nearly as strong as the nose
