Chef Chad (102), Grand Junction, Colorado, USA Jul 10, 2009 With the many Imperial Stouts around these days it was important for me to go back and revisit some that I had had before I was a fan of the style. While this beer is still amazing to me I got to judge it against other impy’s i have had. Smells of chocolate and a massive amounts of roasty tones. Pours Midnight with a tan head that is very nice. Full body with a dry and smooth finish. Chocolate, coffee, brown sugar with a mild citrus hop finish. Still love the beer alagnak (296), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jul 9, 2009 Draft. Dark, dark, with a surprisingly light head. Aroma is nothing overly outstanding, just solid stout roast choclate. Flavor is something else, really well mingled coffee/chocolate and touches of sour stone fruit (peach?). As it warmed, it really stood out - herbaceous and a nice bitterness that combined really muted the ABV.. I could drink a lot of these. arondee (176), Tucson, Arizona, USA Jul 7, 2009 Dark black pour, nice brown head with lots of lacing. Good amount of carbonation. Aroma is chocolate, malt, coffee, and alcohol. The taste is bitter chocolate, coffee, and a slightly bitter finish, I’m not usually big on stouts but I’m really enjoying this one. Very well balanced, great aftertaste, alcohol is hidden well. Delicious! Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2009 Bottle Pours a good black with a creamy lasting light brown head. The head produces great lacing. Has a great aroma of chocolate, mocha, coffee and hints of alcohol. Has a good carbonation. The flavors are excellent. Very well blended and the alcohol is well hidden. Nice mix of sweet chocolate and tart coffee. Has a thick texture. A bold solid finish with a real good aftertaste. Had this one on vacation and it is awesome. kazooka (39), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Jul 3, 2009 12 oz. into a snifter. Pours black with abundant tan head fading to frothy ring. Mocha, toffee, and fruity nose. Heavy bitter, medium sweet. Lightly carbonated, dried fruit, coffee, thick, creamy, chewy, sweet, finishing long, boozy, and very bitter. An exceptional example of this style, albeit a bit too harshly bitter. jrallen34 (123), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2009 Updated: Jul 11, 2009I drank this from a tap into a chalice
This beer is beautiful to look at with a dark body and creamy head that lasts for a while. The color is pitch black with a tan head.
It smells like coffee with a hint of sweetness and a touch of alcohol.
Its tastes strongly of coffee with a balance of chocolate. Its a great combination of sweet and bitter.
A very fine stout. beerfest5 (128), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA Jun 30, 2009 one of the best beers on a cold new england winter night, some coffee overtones, but a delicious stout, be careful with it.
