DiabolikDUB (143), Portland, Oregon, USA May 14, 2009 Poured from Bottle into Pint glass.
Pours absolutely midnight black with a one inch mocha head that moderately dissipates into a thin layer around glass. The Aroma is filled with dark chocolate and roasted malts with some light coffee scent in there as well. The flavor has an upfront roastiness with some chocolate and some dried fruits has the flavors linger and ends with a nice bitterness. This is a heavy bodied beer that coats your mouth with every sip. Every time I get the chance to have this beer its always a good night. This beer is oh-so smooth. WVHouseofBeer (339), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA May 14, 2009 I find this to be more of an Imperial Porter but it is kick arse nonetheless. A beer that really pours a dark, thick, black coffee colored liquid that flashes notes of dark chocolate and plums/raisins in the scent and taste. I could have given this stout top honors but something just seemed to be missing, whether it is my bias towards sweet stouts or just the fact that I have drank some of the best of this style is debatable but that doesn’t mean this brew is bad. Enjoy an Old Rasputin, it really is awesome! acblue (50), Seattle, Washington, USA May 14, 2009 Black with a medium tan head, aroma of malt and chocolate. Very smooth for the style; flavor of chocolate, coffee and some anise. Excellent. WinoInTraining (104), Longmont, Colorado, USA May 13, 2009 Tons of roasty malty goodness. Coco, bitter coffee. But oh so smooottthhhhh. Snoop59 (69), Penn Run, Pennsylvania, USA May 11, 2009 12 oz. Bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a deep, dark black with a small, frothy tan head that dissipates to a thin layer and leaves decent lacing. The aroma is of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and plums. Slight alcohol. Flavor is lightly bitter with lots of coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted malt. Toasty. Full bodied. Short, dry finish. Nicely warming. Soft carbonation. crajun (89), , Texas, USA May 11, 2009 My first imperial stout - I know this is a quality beer, but this style may not be for me..
Beer was comples with several things happening
Definitely tasted the coffee and alcohol
Will try again to see if taste change savnac (394), Palmer, Alaska, USA May 10, 2009 12oz bottle. Aroma is smokey, molasses, caramel and alcohol. Jet black with a small brown head. Taste is sweet roasted malt with a light chocolate bitterness. Full bodied, creamy and thick with a long after taste. This is a very nice Imperial Stout. Block (363), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA May 9, 2009 Black pour with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. Mostly coffee and roasted malts in the flavor. Some chocolate and alcohol in the finish. Seems to be balance nicely but this isn’t a style I’m super familiar with.
