smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA Apr 10, 2009 Smell--Rich chocolate malt aroma; some burnt coffee
Appearance--The color of dark chocolate; not even opaque. Beige head that quickly goes down.
Taste--Predominately coffee, some caramel. Excellent hop ending that perfectly balances the powerful malt.
Mouthfeel--Warm oily texture; nice hop bitterness lingering after the swallow.
Drinkability--Very true to the style. While I personally wouldn’t repeatedly drink Imperial Stouts all night, this would be a top pick for this style JimVanGumby (11), Cottleville, Missouri, USA Apr 9, 2009 I had drank it from the bottle before, but yesterday I tried it on tap. It was incredible, despite the high alcohol content, its hard to find traces of it in the flavor. Instead there was toffee and chocolate coating the entire inside of my mouth and throat. Very rich and what a stout should be. Bukowski9 (89), Piqua, Ohio, USA Apr 9, 2009 Updated: Sep 7, 2009Bottle pour.Smell of coffee, chocolate, little wood.Dark black pour with a decent off-white head.Taste is coffee, chocolate, molasses a little, smoke, and malt.Hits the mouth pretty hard but has a good balance of flavor, alcohol wasn;t overpowering either.Really good stout. MeisterBrew (138), Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA Apr 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a good size brown head. Aroma of bitter chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Flavor is of strong bitter chocolate finishing with a nice roasted malt flavor. Very good stout. It being inexexpensive makes it all the better. l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Apr 8, 2009 Poured black with a light brown head. Thick, rich and tasty! Flavors of roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. A delicious stout. Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Apr 8, 2009 Staple beer. Great to have around. Poured black with tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Good amount of roasted coffee with some bitter chocolate. shotgunn (32), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 7, 2009 Nice black color, off white almost orange thin head that rings the glass on the way down. Smells of coffee and dark malts. Hits the tongue and it is coffee then almost like a burnt chocolate. It looks like it should be alot thicker body, but is not at all what I was expecting from an imperial stout. The 9% acv is really nice. I would buy this beer again. mcmd (132), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 6, 2009 12 bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a beige sudsy head which settles at the rim. Aroma is black licorice, chocolate roasted malt, smoke. Taste is dark dark bitter chocolate and the bitterness hangs around forever on the tongue - kind of one dimensional. A little thin on body also. good imp stout, but not close to expedition, stone, or dark lord.
