Nebulor (109), , California, USA Feb 24, 2009 Lots of roasted malt smell, some molasses, with chocolate and coffee and has some hop esters in the aroma.
Pitch black color with maybe a hint of an amber hue (if you have the right glass), a tan sticky head, and too difficult to see anything else other than sediment in the bottom of the bottle.
Lots of chocolate, coffee, some molasses, and sweet roasted malt up front with pine, pine needles, and a hint of grapefruit and alcohol in the finish.
Full bodied, resinous and buttery, lively soft carbonation and a comfortable bitterness.
Been in my change up for a long time and has no burnt taste that is common with this style (could be a good thing), probably the best from North Coast Brewing.
jumpjet2k (137), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours a murky blackness with a small head that’s nice and dark as well. Aroma is nice and roasty and malty with a bit of dark fruitiness and sugar. Flavor is great - chocolate, coffee, tons of malt, and a pleasant small bitterness. Good thick mouthfeel. Everything you’d expect and want in an imperial stout. mcd410x (10), Florida, USA Feb 23, 2009 In bottle and on draught, my favorite beer right now. Pours thick with lovely head. Coffee and chocolate. Even at 9%, only a hint of alcohol. What a stout should be. dreambrother (19), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Feb 23, 2009 Pours black with a brown head. Nose is chocolate, smoke, coffee, and a tinge of alcohol. Taste is rich chocolate, malts, coffee with a nice finish. Has an almost creamy thickness to the mouthfeel. This is tasty stuff. bsuhamsterman (3), Richmond, Indiana, USA does not count Feb 18, 2009 Seems to pour thick, and black as night. Very robust head with beautiful coloring. The malt is perfect for a stout and it adds with the chocolate aftertaste to create an allusively complex tasting stout. mattmcmanus (2), Pennsylvania, USA does not count Feb 17, 2009 Goodness! I love this stout. Pours black as night with a smell that makes your nose tingle. The roasted malts and dark chocolate flavor is complex which adds an exciting mystery to the beer. Definitely an amazing beer! NDbeerdrinker (164), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Feb 16, 2009 Pours a dark brown with a thin caramel colored head. Aroma is roasted malts and some sweetness. Taste is sweet chocolate up front with some roasted coffee in the back end. Very good stout and incredibly drinkable at 9%. trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Feb 16, 2009 Updated: Feb 24, 2009On tap at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Pours deep black with a large brown head. Smells sweet and complex of roasted malts. .Drinks full robust palate of chocolate, and lightly roasted coffee. Easy to drink, smooth and a really great, and mild, impy stout. One of my favorites.
