discogoatboy (15), , Florida, USA Feb 16, 2009 The taste was a deep roasted coffee with intense dark chocolate mixture. The smell was definitely pretty roasty and smokey. In my book it’s not as good as bell’s expedition or ten fidy but it’s a close 2nd/2.5 after ten fidy. jamvin23 (162), chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with little head. Aroma: Roasted malts and fruit. Flavor: Bitter roasted chocolate and malt. jmulv (82), Rensselaer, New York, USA Feb 15, 2009 Pours a deep, rich black with a thin brown head. The taste is thick and chocolatey. It’s very smooth the whole way down, but not overly complex. Certainly a very fine stout. scottw86 (180), Maryland, USA Feb 13, 2009 Poured black with good sized tan head. Aroma was strongly of chocolate malts and a little bit of coffee. Not too much alcohol in the aroma. Taste is mostly of roasted malts with a full body. Taste remains the same from beginning to end. Aftertaste is a really nice roasted malts and chocolate taste. Not watery, yet smooth. Alcohol is well masked. Very good! DMorrish (13), , Ohio, USA Feb 13, 2009 Good stuff. I liked this better than Bell’s Expedition Stout. Bottle. Looking forward to drinking it again. soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Feb 11, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a motor oil black with a half finger tan head. Smells of roasted chocolate and some coffee, maybe vanilla too. Tastes of coffee, lots of roasted flavors, hints of chocolate, with a full-body feel and a smooth aftertaste. Overall a very good stout, though I still like Bells Expedition stout more. BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Feb 10, 2009 TAP, BOTTLE: tap was on nitrogen, nice nitrogen head. Aroma was roasty, coffee, some chocolate. Somewhat bitter taste with vanilla, coffee, nice thick palate. Great beer. BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 A- Very dark brown/black hue with small, creamy light brown head, excellent lacing throughout
S- Chocolate and coffee aroma with strong caramel/roasty malts
T- WOW! Sweet chocolate malts dominate, coffee roastedness tones, subtle bitter hops pop up near the end, very chewy and nicely balanced
M- Very full-bodied stout, creamy/chewy texture with soft carbonation
D- Surprisingly drinkable for a rather heavy stout, the 9% abv is masked mostly by delicious chewy hops, this brew could be a great post-dinner drink but the strong sweet malts makes it tough to drink several in one setting
