Feb 6, 2009 smells rich and cocoa-e. didn’t smell too much alcohol. dark nice nitro head. taste way smoother than expected, smooth, chocolatey, into smooth hops and alcohol. one of the best stouts i’ve had.

Feb 5, 2009 Updated: Feb 17, 2009Bottled 355ml. Courtesy of DuffMan. Appearance: It pours a pitch black beer with a beautiful, nicely remaining full beige head. Good lacework. Aroma: Very strong. Buttery with a lot of coffee, vanilla, tar, pineapple, ginger, candied fruits, mushrooms and brown sugar. Nice hop profile. Flavor and palate: A lot of coffee, vanilla, candied fruits, pineapple, brown sugar, ginger, tar, cress and hops. Full bodied. Sweet. Mushrooms appearing. A lot of charcater. Alcohol showing up with the swallow. Strong salty finish with coffee and hops dominating. Overall impression: Complex and unique. Thanks a lot DuffMan!

Feb 5, 2009 Nearly a top-tier RIS. Pours black with a legitimate tan head. Roasted malt on the aroma. Fairly oily palate (yet not as much as some of the big RISes) with flavors of chocolate and coffee, some dark fruits, and a sweet alcoholic finish. Makes you miss the good ol’ USSR.

Feb 4, 2009 Impatiently, I tried this a little colder than I usually like. Interesting aromas. Cocoa and coffee as expected, as well as tar, roasted malt, even some cannabis. Momentarily sweet, then with flavors true to the nose, leading to a heavily bitter alcohol finish. Seems pretty true to the style. Strong.

Feb 4, 2009 Even though it is a stout, it has a barly/red wine flavor. Very, very strong. Can really taste the alcohol. It’s almost too strong to drink in large gulps because of the strenght.

Feb 4, 2009 [Bottle, saved since february 2007] Dark color, light brown foam. Flavor is smooth with hops, There is also chokolate, bitterness and some honey.

Feb 3, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a deep dark mahogany almost black with a big tan head. Fades pretty quickly. Smells of burnt chocolate malt with a nice dose of hops. Taste is good with coffee and a bit of hops. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium to light carbonation. Nice cold evening sipper. This is a great stout.
