COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

12 oz bottle: pours jet black with a tan head. the aroma is mostly of dark friuts and chocolate, with hints of coffee and caramel. the flavor is of sweet malt, coffee, chocolate, dates, and aa seemingly neutral hop bitterness that lingers with the coffee flavor. the hidden yet notciable alcohol. i forgot how great this beer was.

Bottle. Nice dark colour and a brownish head, which disappears rather quickly. Mostly coffee and dark chocolate in the nose. The taste starts out sweet -chocolate, coffee, liquorice. Bitter finish, with a hint of alcohol. Great mouthfeel -round, soft and with some warmth from all the alcohol. Beers like this is why "Imperial Stout" is the favourite style.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2005 Bottle. Black with lasting brown head. High flavor intensity with plenty of malt and hops, notes of rye bread. Long roasted and bitter finish with added salty liqourice. Full bodied. (4.0) ...Several bottles later it’s just not that good. Quite intense but the flavors don’t meld together all that well. Highly interesting, quite complex, but not all that drinakble.

On Draft. I hadn’t heard or looked up much about this brew before trying it and thought I may be taking a risk, but North Coast performed as always! An enjoyable brew with a nice head and a smooth rich taste. The aroma left me with questions but the taste was the performer. Hints of chocolate and coffee and caramel with some familiar "cookie" spices. Poured near black with a beige head and finished warming with a somewhat bitter end of coffee pot aftertaste. Thinner than some of my favorite other Imperial Stouts, but not bad! My tastebuds are still interpreting this interesting brew.

When I tried this beer I blurted out un-f**king believable because this stout is so amazing. The aroma smells like any other Russian Imperial Stout and the head sits on the top of the beer with the grace of Russian Czar, but the taste is insane. I dont know what North Coast does to this beer to make it so smooth and sweet but keep it going. Roasted mocha and caramel malts with hints of vanilla and all spice. Want to try this on tap. Similar to Heavyweight but much better.

Draft: overall a pretty good tasting russian imperial stout, the 9%’ers always taste better, normal chocolate and coffee flavors, real good beer

bottle. I assume the color was pitch black..hard to tell when your sitting on the back porch around 10pm smoking a nice Partagus. Choc malty flavor. I let is sit out of the fridge for about 45 minutes.
