Bone Black appearance with thick creamy light brown top. Smell of ROASTED COFFEE BEANS, DARK CHOCO, and vanilla, light bitter conclusion. Strong taste disguises alcohol. Lasting and enjoyable.

Very dark with a full, dark tan head. Aroma is malty, roasty, licorice, alcohol. Full body. Sweet but with ample hops for balance. Coffee/roasty flavor. Delicious and rich with a nice hops kick.

Rerate. Pours a nice deep black with a pillowy thick brown head forming. Sheets of lace are left on the glass from the full head. Smells of roasted malts, some dark bitter chocolate, and some notes of dark fruits coming through as well. The finish is surprisingly smooth and easy to drink. Dark chocoate and deep roasted malts are the most noticeable flavors. Other flavors like licorice, dark fruits, and even vanilla are hinted at in this brew. Yet, this beer was surprisingly sweet. It really reminded me of a chocolate covered malted milk ball.

12 oz. bottle at Lunar Brewing. Thick black/brown pour with a hint of mahogany /deep burnt sienna through the glass. The foamy, dark tan head cascades into the liquid and leaves a nice, clingy lacing. The nose is dark roasted notes, with a touch of sweetness that also shows up in the flavor as dark, port wine. Baker’s cocoa, coffee, and caramel, add to the flavor. A nice, medium hop bitterness is present to the finish.

06 bottle courtesy of retorp. Pours dark amber, still with light golden lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. Taste, plenty of roasted malts, with light notes of hops in after taste. Light coffee with thick grainy body. One good and enjoyable beer, still very tasty with some age on.

Pours a beautiful dark black with a really nice head and lacing. Stong roasted malt aroma along with chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Taste is a fantastic espresso like coffee with the malts and chocolate covering up the alcohol perfectly. Nice mouthfeel with a slightly spicy aftertaste. A very solid brew.

This beer I first tried at the "Blessing of the Bock" festival in Milwaukee, WI. When poured into my 8oz glass I was drawn in by it’s wonderful aroma. It pours dark like a black hole has opened up in your glass with no head. It has great flavor, but found the bitterness of it to be very harsh on my palate. Overall, I gained to insights from this beer. The first is that it is made of pure evil and the second is that I don’t drink with anyone until they have had this beer.

2006 bottle, courtesy Degarth. Dark brown pour, practically black, with no head and little lacing. Slight oxidation in the nose, but mostly tons of roast, caramel, tons of molasses and some slight smoke. Flavor has a fair amount of roast and caramel, chocolate, some raisin, very nice. Aged wonderfully, smooth, full-bodied, good.
