A deep black color with a creamy, fully lasting brown head. A roasted aroma with hints of chocolate. A nice coffee taste and full mouthfeel with a pleasant aftertaste.

Pours an opaque dark brown with tiny hints of ruby. Dense tan head. No real lacing to speak of. Smells rich and malty. Creamy chocolate, milky, rich alcohol and vanilla. Taste is just amazing. Itís rich with lightly roasty malt flavors. Bittersweet chocolate. Some roasted coffee bean in the finish that becomes more pronounced as it warms. Itís lightly sticky in the mouth and very full bodied. a lingering coffee bitterness. The balance of sweetness and bitterness is just fantastic. I love it. An old favorite I canít believe I hadnít reviewed yet.

very dark, strong alcholo flavour, had on tap at Sheraton LAX brewpub. Decent stout, strong enough to truly be classified as an íimperialí stout.

Surprised I havenít rated this before. I consider it an old standby as far as imperial stouts go. Nice roasted complex taste without having too much of an alcohol taste that some imp. stouts suffer from. I regularly find myself going back to this beer, especially since it can usually be found without too much trouble.

this was good, but i will be honest: i dont think this can hang with the top 50, or even the top 10 impy stouts. impressive aroma, appearance, and palate, but the flavor was somewhat lacking. bland for a impy stout, not as much coffee and chocolate and carmel as i am used to. some whipped cream and ver ysmooth creamy malt flavors but that was it.

WOW, chocolate and roast in the aroma and the taste. This is how a Russian imperial stout should taste with the roast right up front and in your face. A standard for me, absolutely great.

Pours a pitch black color with a surprisingly small creamy colored head. Roasted coffee and dark chocolate best describe the scent. Taste can be described as coffeeish, dark chocolates and slightly oaked bourbon. I go back and forth between this and Storm King as to which is my favorite imperial stout. An excellent beer !!

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2006 Rerate: Draught at Coles, Buffalo NY. Pretty much the same as below except this time I found the alcohol completely hidden and the bitterness just right. An excellent Impy Stout.

Bottle.Pours black with a small diminishing brown head. The lack of head was dissapointing. Very nice aroma of hops, chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel and fruit. Flavour was surprisingly hoppy along with spices, caramel, roasted malts, chocolate and alcohol. I had to knock a few points off the palate and the overall as the hops made it very bitter and the alcohol was too predominant. Perhaps aged it would be smoother. Really good but not excellent.

12 oz. bottle from Holiday. Poured very dark brown/black. Nice tan head that left very lasting lacing. Aromas were dark cherry and caramel. Flavors added coffee, chocolate, and an intensly bitter finish. Very good.
