4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2004 Bottle. It pours dark brown, almost black with a hint of red coloration in the bright light and a thick dark tan head. Extremely rich roasted malt and alcohol aromatics. Thick roasted malts, burnt chocolate, coffee flavors penetrate deeply on the palate. Creamy and rich mouthfeel. A malty & robust stout, well balanced. Complex and complete. An excellent Imperial.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Gah! This tastes like burnt toast, with a side of mulberry marmalade and a huge helping of malt, hops and alco-ma-hol. This is wicked. Warm and inviting to say the least, with a bitter nose and a lingering after-taste of alcohol. Hmm..my glass is strangely empty now...

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark as night with cappucino head, very thick! Malt, chocolate, coffee, sour cherry, and some burnt aroms. Heavey mouthfeel with bitter dry finish. Favors of coffee, toffee, bitter chocolate, sour fruit, and burnt toast. The finish lingers on and on with the bitter burnt toast lingering. Great winter warmer!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
this is ok, thin and chalky, more like Sam Smiths impy than an in your face, oily hopped up US take on the style - which I prefer. Definately overrated IMNSHO.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured the color of root beer,no head. Aroma of chocolate, mocha and a hint of hops. Mouthfeel a little thin and dry but not bad.Flavor also mocha, slightly bitter chocolate with mild roasty/dry finish. Easy to drink and another one that goes good with choco chunk cookies. Pretty good but it ainít Storm King.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured an opaque pitch black, with a fairly thin but dark brown head, the way a stout should look. Aroma was a heavenly blend of chocolate, espresso, and dark fruits. Excellent bitter flavor punctuated by notes of dark chocolate, strong espresso, plum, grapes, alcohol, and a sublime smoky roasted malt finish. Thick and creamy in the mouth, but never exceedingly heavy. Best imperial Iíve had to date, and I canít wait to have some more.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Jet black pour with a long lasting foamy tan head. Intense aroma of chocolate, coffee and dried fruit. Initially it seemed to be very thin, but then this brew just explodes! Very rich taste with more chocolate, some raisin, smoke, peat, roasted malt. Alcohol is warming, but doesnít throw off the beer at all. This beer is not overrated.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle. Smells of expresso and fruit with hints of vanilla. Pours a deep mahogany with a small tan head. Has a thick, rich body that matches the strong flavors of dark chocolate, burnt malt, hops and alcohol. The flavors meld together so well and finish so perfectly, it is hard to distinguish them all at once. A truely excellent ale that is divine on draught when you can find it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a nice dark black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate and hoppy. Flavor is milky, chocolatly and molasses. Everything has a very roasted flavor that warms as it goes down. Alcohol is felt as a spicy bite on the tounge. Good beer for sipping with a nice cigar.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: Very dark brown, not opaque as Iíd thought it would be, but has a lasting beige head. Nice ruby highlights! Aroma is roasty and chocolatey, chocolatey & roasty. The two aromas sort of intermingle and switch places as it warms from refrigerated temperatures. More chocolate when cool, & more dry, coffee, roasty as it warms. Some hints of a milky lactic aromas, and unfortunately very little dark fruit character. Some currant, but overall, very light! Hints of toasty malt and caramel after it warms also some noticeable alcohol. There is fruitiness, but itís not dark fruit. Very well balanced for a big beer. Roasty & lightly chocolate, caramel, and moderate fruitiness...again, not dark fruit. Finish is on the semi sweet side with a chocolate and lightly bitter aftertaste from dark grains, not hops. Lighter full body, low carbonation, very smooth, w/ extremely well hidden alcohol. I can see why this is highly rated! Itís a very well made beer. More of an American Russian Imperial, but still well made. I prefer more dark fruit(winey, raisiny) character in my R.I.S. but this is an extremely fine beer.
