4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Nutty, coffee aroma. Good tan head, dark opaque body. Starts sweet and fruity, becomes almost tangy roasted malty, fades a little, and then finishes strong and chocolate-bitter. Creamy.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled from bottle. Pours a blackened ruby with a thick, tan head. Aroma is rich chocolate and raisin with some floral notes. Flavor is bittersweet and fairly simple for the style with roasted and crystal malts dominating. Ripe fruit is not as present as the style would dictate, but some plum is present. Full-bodied and easy to drink, save the substantial alcohol presence. A good, but not great Imperial Stout.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
(draft) A wonderful beer. Intensity everywhere from the aroma to the flavor to the finish. Dark chocolate and quite a lot of roasted malt. A sweet burning finsh that made me want another sip right away.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very nice dark-brown black with creamy old bone brown colored froth. Nose is fresh hoppy and has well integrated blackend céréal accents. also hints of wax, pine needles and chalk powder. Mouthfeel is round, smooth creamy, and has touches of freshley torifactioned coffee beans, vanilla, cedarwood, burned bread crust and hard carbonized (burned raisins) on the crust of raisin bread. in the afthertaste a fine and well dosed sweetness that counters the burned and hop bitters in a smooth and elegant way. This beer lingers on with a complex burned herbal finale. Sage and rozemary on the grill of a BBQ;

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2005 Great balance of malt, coffee, and chocolate flavors. Not as "Heavy," as some stouts. I don’t know how beer could be any better than this! WOW!!!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured a thick black with minimal head. Wonderful aroma of roasted malts, coffee, licorice, and dark chocolate. My first Imperial Stout and it was definitely a great one. Very complex flavors on the palate. The most obvious of which is bitter roasted malts and chocolate. Nice level of sweetness to balance the bitterness and good carbonation. Has a very nice thick texture and a warming bite that makes it perfect for a cold winter night.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Poured out motor oil black with a nice thick dark tan head. Aroma is intoxicating itself full of rich, dark roast coffee, molasses and some toasted malt. Palate was almost creamy in texture, just a bit of fizz, great mouthfeel. Flavor was so incredibly complex with strong dark chocolate, molasses, french vanilla, toffee and a bit of anise. The finish was heavy on the roasted malt and alcohol which warms you on the way down. If I still lived up north I would definitely use this to warm me up on those cold winter nights. Outstanding, hearty beer.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2007 This is so very, very good. Coal black with an espresso head. Just by sniffing this one you know you’re in for something of a treat. It’s hearty yet compulsively drinkable. Dried cherries, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and a little spiciness. Coats the tongue without being too viscous. Bitterness at the back of the throat with some alcohol. This is the benchmark I use when comparing other stouts.
