v64 (74), Austin, Texas, USA May 24, 2008 Delicious malt aroma, pours very dark, as expected. Quite bitter, smoky, and chocolatey. This is a strong one, quite amazing. msears (10), chicago, Illinois, USA May 24, 2008 An incredible beer. It’s bitter, oily and full of alcohol like the man himself! joebudzjoe (222), Connecticut, USA May 22, 2008 Wow, this is a potent brew. A smoked malty aroma with a strong taste that kicks. NoiZe (1289), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands May 22, 2008 Big thnx to flippy! Dark brown colored brew. Dark fruits, burned malty aroma. Flavor is malty, coffee, chocolate and licorice. Bitterness is good too. A very nice brew. msante79 (782), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA May 21, 2008 Had several times. Pours black with red around edges and pours mocha head. Aroma is robust with burnt malts, dark fruits, coffe and some smoke. Flavor is complex with malt, coffee, dark fruits and a hint of chocolate. A fine stout. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA May 21, 2008 Updated: Jun 8, 2008bottle. Pours a dark brown, and sits in glass with a lumpy tan head. Nose is of dark fruit, licorice, some roasts, and light coffee. Palate is medium-thick and sticky. Flavor of intense bitter black coffee, malts, dark chocolate, licorice, bread, and roasts. Emerging from the bitter coffee body, finish has hint of sweetness and alcohol. Very rich, very strong. Overall, this beer doesn’t disappoint, but I wonder if the bitterness is just a tad over the top (especially as it warms). Ando (105), Woodstock, Georgia, USA May 19, 2008 *did not mind would not buy*
aroma: pepper, soy.. dark burnt sugars. some booze. app: black. flavor: booze weighty. some smoke. almost vodka like finish. some hop back of the throat. lacks richness. palate: fine bit spritzy and thin. OA: fine. not bad, just ok. an old classic that brought me into the game.. but left to go back and get others. robbmotiwalla (50), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 18, 2008 smells like sweet coffee. black as night with a tan/brown head. some good bittering hops in there to offset the espresso intensity
