nimrod (53), USA Apr 27, 2008 On tap @ Radio Maria. Dark brown with syrup consistency and very creamy head. Roasted aroma, bitter chocolate, a just a little smoke. This beer tasted fantastic; mixture of sweet and bitter, smooth and hoppy. Lots of character with the chocolate, coffee, sweet malt, some toffee, and more than I can describe. Great beer on tap and satisfied my Russian heritage. lassem (296), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 26, 2008 Bottle 33 cl. The nose is filled with laquirice and chocolate but also the alcohol. It is not as thick and creamy as i remembered and the head was quickly fading. It has a off-flavour of port and is a bit sour - maybe this one is too old?? The finish is dry and hoppy with notes of roasted (sour) coffee. Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a deep blackish color with a nice, pillowy, creamy brown head.
S- Smell starts with rich roasted malts and moves into a deep spiciness which gives way to a sweet maltiness.
T- Starts off with unassuming sweet malt and then a coffee flavor grabs hold and moves into a bit of bitter hops at the end. Dark chocolate in the background all the way through.
M- Thinner than your average RIS with quite a bit of carbonation.
D- Let me just put it out there that I am not a huge RIS fan. I like them from time to time, but they aren’t my bread and butter. This seemed a lot less menacing than some of the other ones out there so i’d say this is a good one for people who are looking to get into the style. GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Apr 25, 2008 Updated: Jul 8, 2008Super stout. Rich roasted flavors, nice dry finish. No need to go on with this one, just drink it. monnggee (1), USA does not count Apr 23, 2008 caramel, black, tan foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium sourness, full body, thick feel, soft carbonation, bitter, gbdub (73), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Apr 22, 2008 Updated: Dec 31, 2008Deep brown black color, relatively thick medium brown head that clings to the glass as it settles. Aroma is roasted coffee with dark chocolate and some sweetness, a bit of berry fruitiness. Medium-full body. Strong roast flavor up front with some alcoholic bite. Definite dark chocolate flavors. Semi-sweet with a drier, slightly hoppy finish, leaves behind dark chocolate and then coffee. Really sticks with you for awhile. Note - bumping this up a tick on a re-rate after having it on tap at Ashley’s. Nitrogen adds a great creaminess to this beer that works well with the flavor.
