4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Old Rasputin looks the part, plays the part and delivers intangibles to boot.Black French roast coffee with a thick two fingered brown sugar tint head. Plenty of lace along the glass as it drinks, excellent for an imperial stout.Nice blend of roasty near smoky malt, classic espresso rich tones of the style. Huge bittersweet chocolate in the malty body with nice touches of orange, mint and grapefruit hop character. Luscious medium full body, slightly warming with moderate carbonation. Rich chocolate character dark and bittersweet with with roasty ground dark coffee beans. Some vanilla bean and licorice. A nice touch of earthy and citrusy hops fills the mid palate.Warming alcohol in the finish. Well balanced fermentation, leads to a quintessential Russian imperial stout. In a beer world rife with extreme indulgence of ingredients and absurd drives to be aggressively hopped alcohol monsters with funny names, Old Rasputin rests as a classic you should always be thinking of, especially when thinking RIS.

Dark pour with a tan head, aroma of toffee and dark fruits. Taste is great, complex with tobacco, fruit, and toffee flavors with a hint of booziness that is not overpowering. Love this beer, wouldn’t hesitate to buy more.

Picked up a four pack Old Rasputin from my local store. It has a nice appearance--dark brown with a tan head. There is fragrances of caramel and brown sugar. It has a smooth mouthfeel and the mild coffee and caramel notes do a nice job hiding the abv. Overall it’s a great beer.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown-ish black with hints of ruby around the edges. There is a nice creamy, foamy light tan head that dissipates quickly leaving wonderful lace. The aroma is quite complex. There is a nice , sweet fruitiness. The licorice presence is quite hefty, and the roastyness that exists
In the back end is great. The flavor is just as complex. There is a nice bitterness on the front edge before it fades through the light fruitiness and the roasty bitterness that finishes out is just great. The mouth feel is thick, coats well, and the aftertaste just lingers around like a good stout should.

Poured from bottle. Thick, black pour. Head was two-finger, creamy, and tan. Didn’t last long. Aroma was malty, with hints of raisins. Hops take back seat with stout, but limits the sweetness. Silky smooth, medium body, slightly bitter at end with alcohol. A hint of licorice is perhaps the only distraction I have with this great stout. This beer is wonderful - worthy of 100 rating.

Dark black with a tan foam. Laces nicely. Aroma is fresh chocolate and coffee. The taste is smooth chocolate coffee. A sharp bitterness then sweetness lingers for a moment but overall the brew finishes clean.

Head toffee colored, dissipates quick. Beer brown/black, opaque. Aromas of caramel and pepper. Taste coffee, grapefruit, spice, shoyu. Finish is black coffee/bitter hops. Palate silky and rich, not sticky. Fine carbonation. This beer is not sweet. It is complex and rich and drinkable.

Having a few on tap at home. Black as a coffee bean. The abyss of darkness and the cream of a summer milkshake. Everlasting, frothy, head. Chocolate finish. I'll have another.
This is most certainly true.
